The female smell

Contributor: Miss Jane Miss Jane
We've had lots of discussion about what guys can do to make their cum taste better, but what about girls?

I was curious so I've been doing a bit of digging lately. Of course everyone has their own unique/smell taste, but sometimes it gets a bit off.. and you wrack your brain trying to think "what did I eat? what did I not eat? I don't have an infection... was I sabotaged by my underwear?"

The vagina normally has a low pH, and semen is alkaline. So when they mix... you can get a bad smell. I've noticed this happening to me a *lot*. It's usually back to normal within the same day or the next.. but if the boyfriend forgets and comes inside in the heat of the moment multiple times in a small span, it can get weird down there.

So what I've been reading is that things like juice (pineapple gets the most praise, with OJ and cranberry right behind) and yogurt (which helps with UTIs and yeast infections anyway) will help get you smelling pretty good down there.

But of course, the internet giveth and the internet taketh away. I got conflicting information. Garlic is good for you, so it promotes a healthy vajayjay - but garlic is stinky, and the smell can permeate your entire body very quickly. Also, if girlstuff is low ph and boystuff is high ph, why on earth does pineapple juice supposedly make both taste better?

Also, multi-vitamins were on the 'bad' list on several sites (I would guess because of the b12 and iron). So were 'aged cheeses', sugary foods, gluten, and of course douching frequently.

What do the girls here think? Do you smell/taste better after a fruit binge? Are there any particular foods that you avoid or go for before the big night? It seems like a lot of trail and error and personal body pH compatibility to me, but I know it's something a lot of women struggle with - especially after you have that big bout of sex and are all 'off'.

Sometimes I feel I smell a bit stronger but I've rarely been worried about the way I smelled. Except that one time I had some garlic heavy pasta. Even the after sex smell fades quickly with wipes or a shower.

I've never really worried about my taste or smell. It only gets a bit..weird down there sometimes before, during and definitely after my period. But minus the whole period, I've been told I don't taste bad or smell bad.

I've heard for men not to eat high sugar foods and stay away from meat, too. If that's true, then that's probably why I don't have a disgusting or strong taste/smell. I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat any meat at all and I stay away from dairy just because I'm lactose-intolerant.

Bottom line, I've never really heard of anything for women to make us taste or smell better down there. But I can only assume, in some ways, it's the same for women as it is for men?

I've never really tried to change the way I smell/taste, but then again I do most of the things they ask anyway. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, eat yogurt regularly, etc. For me, eliminating or reducing meat is a no-go with my medical condition (I have a form of anemia that responds better to steak than to high-dose iron supplements), but I usually don't have issues with changing things. He did notice a definite difference in taste when I changed birth control brands, but it was more that my basic taste had gotten stronger, not weird.

Thoughts about pineapple juice: given that it helps both the acidic and the basic gender juices, its benefit probably isn't linked exclusively to the acid. I'm betting it's some of the natural sugars, and perhaps other compounds in the pineapple juice that make us taste better. I've heard fruit enzymes mentioned as a possible cause, but this is very unlikely: stomach acids are specifically designed to disable and break down proteins, and enzymes are primarily protein. Most enzymes never make it through the stomach alive.

Condoms. Prevents baby batter from decaying in the vagina before it gets a chance to totally wash itself out.

Same here, as long as I go the bathroom and clean off or take a shower I'm usually fine.

"Baby batter" =D thats just amazingly funny!

i've hurd that pineapple works well to sweeten naughty bits up and i would also assume all natural sugars in fruit would be beneficial. meats can make people tast bitter and also a generaly unhealthy diet with a lotta processed sugars and dairy can make things tast and smell funnky in your nether regions.

I'm going to be honest, I just wash before hand. That way, I never ever have to worry about it.

Gee, if they had a campaign "Pinneapple makes your junk smell better" maybe thousands of Dole plantation workers would still have jobs on Oahu and Maui . Shit, since the fields close we are importing papaya, coconut, mango and pinneapples from South America. Just to let you know, each of these fruits is about 4 bucks a piece in Hawaii, except for a pinneapple which is up to six dollars, average size, on sale. We used to grow banana, but instead we have more military bases. Infact, all the useable land is condos and military bases and shops. Hawaii is Japan's dollar store though. (They come here to buy their Gucci and Prada and Chanel).

You know what makes everything smell bad? Ciggerettes, booze, garlic, heat and lack of soap. And Kim Chee. Eat Kim Chee and you will never catch anything because noone but another Kim Chee eater will get within ten feet of you. I'm sure if you spill Kim Chee on something it will kill germs faster than Lysol.

Wash, use condoms, wash again.

I eat a lot of garlic & I personally have never noticed a change in scent.
Neither has my Dearly Beloved, and I have asked.
It could be that I'm just not eating enough of it for it to affect my girly bits.
Then again, I never have a problem with smell.

Anytime I *have* noticed a problem, I go RIGHT to the yogurt & cranberry juice. I have no idea if pineapple works, although I've definitely heard it enough times. I do know that yogurt regulates pH & cranberry helps flush the system, so it's a logical combination.

I've also heard that asparagus makes you smell horrendous. I don't know if it's true ... Last time I ate it, I didn't get frisky with anyone immediately afterwards.

Interesting topic. There have been some days where I've noticed I smell stronger than others but nothing that I find terribly offensive. Except of course for that time of the month. Maybe I'll head for the cranberry juice and yogurt next time

the bc pill can make the vagina smell weird.

The only time I feel I smell funky is around me period (smells like pennies!). I definitely have a strong smell because of hormones from bc and having a bush but I personally find it sexy. Plus I sell my dirty skivvies so it makes for a good product lol.

Douching seems unnecessary. Vaginas are supposed to smell like vaginas. Adding unnatural scents defeats the purpose by erasing all those lovely pheromones.

things like culiflower, broccoli,on ions, garlic, cheese, dai ry,breads and meat can make you smell or taste stronger honey, cinnomon, pineapp le,starfruit, pumpkin,c ardomom and lemon can all make you taste and smell very sweet and ofcoarse the longer you eat theese foods and keep off the others the better they work.

after i eat alot of meat(im a beef lover) my boyfriend tells me i taste very "metally" like he has been sucking on a penny.

I think denying yourself the things you like to eat, just to smell better seems backward to me. I cannot give up garlic, coffee, or meat, and I know it. We cook with fresh minced garlic pretty much every night. We use fresh onions, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, various meat, various cheeses - oh well!

I definitely agree that semen mixing down there makes a strong smell - I am super relieved to read that other ladies experience the same thing. Thankfully, I never have issues, and just take daily showers.

I also use a light body lotion all over and that leaves a soft scent to mingle with my own smell - that might be worth a try to anyone that feels self-conscious.

I just don't focus on it one way or the other. I try to eat a healthy balanced diet and try to avoid excesses and it seems to work out. I do notice that sometimes semen can create a different and even an unpleasant odor for me, but it subsides. A shower always helps as does a good masturbation session. It kinda gets the juices flowing and perhaps flushing? Never thought of this before.

I guess we're just lucky - we've never had any odor issues with lubrication, ejaculation, semen or the combination - but I will say that loosing the hair made the whole experience more pleasant - sweeter tasting.

To be honest, I've just kept a varied diet, and he hasn't complained. I get self-conscious about it sometimes, but it doesn't appear to be an issue.
I have heard that douching is actually a bad idea for improving the status of the vagina, but I'm not sure of the source on that one.

Thankfully I taste sweet to every guy who has gone down there. I say it is because I am a vegetarian...they do taste better . So maybe veggies and fruit will do the trick. Meat makes it bitter I have heard.

Never tasted a vegetarian - but I've found very few that didn't taste sweet. I don't believe that diet has much to do with it - maybe with the noticeable exception of very strong foods like garlic. In any case not even garlic can keep me from my desert!

I eat plenty of meat and other weird foods and my fiance still claims I'm the best he's ever tasted. I don't think it's necessarily being a vegetarian that might do it, I think it's just making sure you have a healthy balance of all the things your body needs.

Same here. I agree that a healthy balance is the best way to go.

Also, I love eating those tasty animals way too much to give it up just so my boyfriend can have a sweeter treat than what he's already getting

I've been told (and verified by myself) that I taste "deliciously sweet and tangy". I have never altered my diet to get this result. I eat plenty of meat and candy and garlic and bread and even less vegetables. The only change I notice is around my period where the smell gets more powerful and "musky".

My guess is that everyone starts with a different pH balance and mucous composition ,but some people are more susceptible to changes caused by diet.

I don't worry that much about it. I have a pretty strong smell but I think its generally pleasant. Though I'll say I always worry when I'm on my period, because the smell bothers ME so it much bother someone who its foreign to. Periods smell like pennies!

I myself as a man think the natural smell and taste is just wonderful. Any time she wants me to I am quite happy to oblige. But I have never gone there with anyone but my wife. She eats a normal kind of all American diet. I think its a preference thing I have friends that love the taste and friends that just don't want to go there.
