Thanks everyone for all the support!!! I should have titled my post better. I should have asked for current editors to help. I never thought about how it could be seen as a plea to get new editors and I am SO sorry for the confusion!! I am on new medication and it is messing up my brain, darn it (that part of why I have trouble doing the maximum edits per day, too )!
As it stands, no new editors are being approved, so I don't know if submitting an application will get it read by anyone. However, I hope that perhaps Ilya will see the response perhaps and think about letting new people edit. I think the problem may be that many who are currently editors are simply not here right now for whatever reason, are too busy, are just tired and burned out, or something.
@wrecklesswords, I would contact Ilya to ask what can be done about that glitch. I can answer the other question you had though from before, about what to do if there are many messages from other editors on the reviews. Usually, you will see many messages from mentors in that section. If the mentor is no longer is working with the student and they are no longer on the mentor list, go ahead and take the review. The other time you see it is when an editor has returned the review for reworking to the member. Once the member resubmits it, then the original editor continues to work on it. Here's the problem now, I have not seen anyone editing for a long time (I apologize if I missed some!), so my advice is to use your best judgement and if you think that editor is no longer active (feel free to ask me if you want to know), then go ahead and take it. It is NOT fair to the member to have their review in limbo for a long time while we wait to see if an editor is going to come back.
Now, I don't want to act like I am the authority on editing, because I am not; no one appointed me as the boss. However, I have been doing a lot of them until recently and I am happy to answer any questions. Chances are, I know the answer.
OMG! Thank you Pete's Princess and charmedtomeetyou, for offering to help when you are already mentoring! That's really above and beyond anything I would have expected and you made my day along with the people offering to edit for the first time!!
If I hear anything about them accepting submissions for editing, I will let everyone know by posting and announcement, even if they post their own, just to get the message out (I'll put it here, too, so if you set your alerts for this thread, you will get an email that tells you without having to comb the forum daily).
Again, thanks for all the offers to edit and maybe they will accept them, I don't know, but it's worth a shot. In the meantime, I do what you can do to help and that's to read those reviews that do get published, if you can. And please, vote on them and comment or ask questions, it really will help the site, thanks!
PLEASE consider voting on the editing job, too. Remember we are merely proof reading for plagiarism, spelling, grammar, punctuation and factual errors; we don't help make it a better review, that would be for a mentor. So please, don't vote down an editor because a review is sub par, just vote on if the spelling, grammar & punctuation are clean, thanks!!
PS, Current editors: DO NOT ever use the "send to administrator" button! It is a glitch that sends the review into a black hole forever! Instead, if you have a review that needs to be sent back to the reviewer, please leave it in the task market and edit the title to add at the end of it that it needs to be be returned. Hopefully Ilya can then do that for us. If you see one like that, don't touch it and just do the next available review, thanks!!
Sheesh, sorry for the novel, you guys!
