Getting rid of discontinued items?

Contributor: cherryredhead88 cherryredhead88
It seems that a lot of items that have been discontinued are still around the site. Here is an example. I am curious as to why these are still up after they have been discontinued, as I find it quite a tease to drool over something and not be able to have it

Is it because the reviews stay up? Do they really need to be up if the product is gone? Or would that affect the reviewers' ranks and what have you?

I wonder this as well.

ditto, especially as one item I was recently sent to review was discontinued. I thought it was kind of odd

Because part of the ranking system is on number and quality of reviews, if a product were removed which had active reviews on it, it might cause a drop in ranking. Just my thought.

I think sometimes new items are labeled as discontinued before they're stocked.

I think those are listed as "Not available for purchase" but I could be wrong.

They usually are, but I have seen some new ones come up as that too lately.

New products that are not active are labeled "Not available for purchase". I will research instances that show otherwise.
As for products that were active but now discontinued - they remain on the site but will not show up through the products search.

Such a bummer that reviews go up for recently discontinued items. And that glass one looked pretty nice too. But I definitely wouldn't want people's reviews they worked so hard on to disappear!

Yes this was the only reason I could think of them being up. Like Darling Jen said I would hate for someone's hard work to disappear with the toy. I just hate being teased! Lol Thanks everyone

Sometimes they come back. I think they have value whether or not the product is still here because similar products can be introduced or a better version of said product.

I noticed this too. I removed 150+ items form all my wishlists because of it. But it made me excited because it means...

NEW STUFF

BETTER PRODUCTS

NEW ITEMS TO REVIEW FOR FREE ASSIGNMENT

BETTER MATERIALS

It's all good!

There have been several times when I've really liked having the discontinued products available. I can look at the product page and reviews and get specs to compare something I have and really like (such as the Captain/Squirt from Tantus) against other products.

I can also nurse a faint hope that enough people will find out about them to convince the maker to reintroduce them.

This is what I'm hoping for, for the Tantus Sherbet.

It's just so amazing looking! But I'm confused as to why it's listed as Out of Stock instead of Discontinued...

I know the manufacturer quit making these a year or two ago.

I had this same thought when I was sent a Blindfold to review. Perhaps two days after receiving it, I went to check the specs on it for my review and it had said discontinued. I was really concerned about this because I didn't know if I was still suppose to write a review for a discontinued product. I was informed I was still held to writing it, since it will probably just take some time off and come back later. However it still shows up as being discontinued.

I think this may very well be the case as the product I reviewed is now available for sale

EF Should just break links to such product until they come back in stock or indefinitely if they arent

EF has the system set up so that you really need to go looking for them to find them, so it's unlikely to be a big inconvenience. If a review compares one product to another, now discontinued, product it's still important that someone be able to look at a picture, specs or reviews of the discontinued product to get a feel for the comparison that's being made.

I don't mind stumbling across things that Eden has decided no longer to carry, but can still be found elsewhere with little trouble. I've even done reviews on products no longer carried here because they're still easy to find elsewhere.
