Deleting your own topics

Contributor: LavenderSkies LavenderSkies
I'm sorry if this has been brought up before! But, I was just wondering why we are not given the option to delete our own topics? Sometimes I will later find out, after I start a topic, that there is a similar on-going topic somewhere else. Should we have this feature?

Since points are awarded for posting a topic, it's understandable that deleting them at-will isn't an option. In a previous month's Build a Better Eden thread I suggested allowing members to use their points towards removing a thread (because we all occasionally post something we regret) and I'm waiting to see if that suggestion goes anywhere.

This is a good idea. My only concern is that when some people make a "give me advice" topic and then don't like the advice given they go and delete it because of that. That type of stuff irks my nerves. lol

Maybe it would be possible to have the body of the comment removed, but allow the thread to stay?

On other forums I participate in, where users can edit content at-will, the OP (or any poster) can remove the text in his or her comment, but the thread and subsequent comments remain active.

It's just too messy. It would be best if people search before hand (yes, we know the search function isn't perfect) and only post what they're willing to stand behind.

The main reason is if we opened up an avenue for people to have posts pulled at will, the admins would spend half their day pulling threads, leaving the other projects we're working on in the dust. And since it's a post for points action, it gets even messier.

I don't believe so. I think being able to close a thread would be useful so people don't just post and delete.

I wish it were an option because all too often I start a topic and get ripped into for not finding that someone has said it before. I thought it was supposed to be friendly here. :/
