I can read and speak Spanish pretty well but understanding it or translating it into English or English into Spanish I'm terrible with. I only really know a little bit of Spanish but it's not really enough to conversate with Spanish speaking people.
#Feedback - Do you speak Spanish?

I'm Argentinian, a native speaker of Spanish, and I've been studying English as a second language since I was ten. In fact, I've taken a degree in teaching English as a second language, and own several dictionaries, both for translation and for specialized learning... pronunciation, collocation and such.
Of course, I also know a lot about grammar and syntax of Spanish, because in my University, they don't let you teach a foreign language unless you're proficient in your own. It's kind of a pride thing.

I know a lot, but I would not say I have native fluency. I have Mexican family (in Mexico) and that's where I picked it up, plus 6 years in school.

I know enough to have a good base if I should visit or move to a Spanish speaking country. I would pick it up easily from there. I used to be a Spanish major and had about 5 years of classes. But, if you don't use it you lose it. That saying is so true.
What I know I'm able to translate proficiently into both languages as well as write it out/spell it.

I'm better at reading it and writing in it than speaking in it.

I know my numbers and colors... and, how to say "where are my pants"

I never did learn Spanish but my spouse (now deceased) spoke it as her first language. Her and I spoke German as our common language until she came to the US with me and became fluent in English.
She was a remarkable woman in spite of everything.

I can ask for two beers. Does that count? (Actually, I can count to a hundred in Spanish, tell you how fat and ugly your (pet) cat is, and ask where the bathroom is.
As far as understanding the directions to said bathroom, I'd be screwed unless it involved the words "de la esquina" which I know roughly translates to "around the corner".)

I'm also in a weird place answering this question. Spanish was my native language but I learned English almost immediately after and due to the change in culture only really got use out of English for a long time. I understand Spanish really well but I can never seem to get the words out right and grammatically correct. Instead I "hace la boba" and pretend to be unable to speak it unless there are emergencies.

I took 4 years in high school, seems like i remember less every day..

I only remember a few things from HS Spanish.

Nope, I don't know any Spanish. I took French in school and forgot most of it anyways. I've never had any desire to learn Spanish either.
01/24/2013
I don't speak it but I am currently learning!
01/24/2013
I am half Puerto Rican so I know a little bit of it. I can understand it more then I can speak it. The way they also taught us in school is not the same as speaking it fluently with someone. Even when it comes to writing and reading it.
01/24/2013
Nope, french, english and a bit of german and japanese is enough for me.
01/24/2013
I have always loved the Spanish language and hope to one day be fluent.
01/24/2013
I know a little (from growing up in a hispanic area) but lost most of it. I'm working on practicing though!
