Fun idea for the EF Community...

Contributor: Not here Not here
This is quite a lofty idea and would obviously take a lot of initiative from not only the people who run this wonderful website, but also the entire community, but I think it would be a lot of fun...

I'm sure most of you have heard of either Comic-Con or Fet-Con, but the idea is based on that. I think it would be awesome to have some sort of get together for the EdenFantasys community, where perhaps toy manufacturers could set up booths, have some important people from the industry there to give speeches or presentations, giveaways, basically just a way for all of the wonderful reviewers and ambassadors on the website to finally get to meet up in one place. If it were a hit, it could be a yearly thing.

The idea struck me on the way home from a friends' house today, so I thought I would share it with you guys.

So, what do you think? Would that be a good idea, and if so do you think it could ever be a possibility? Or, if you think it's a bad idea, explain why you think so. I've just found that there are so many great people on here, and think it would be cool to actually meet some of them one day!

Wow, very involved, but a good idea. It's an insane job to put together a convention though..

I think it's a cool idea but we have a lot of contributors from all around the world and it would sort of suck to not be able to go unless it were a traveling convention.

I mean I live in Quebec Canada and I don't think I would be motivated to drive 10 hours to see a convention for a few hours and drive back home.

There already is a Sex Toy expo held in the Spring (?) in Vegas for the Adult Industry.

I've seen highlights on G4. I'm pretty sure Eden has participated in it.

Starting tomorrow Victoria and Jenn are going to be at BlogHer 2010 in NYC. This is a pretty big event too.

its lofty, and judging by the number of people posting video reviews (me included) without showing their face, not sure many would show. I would though.. if it were in colorado of course

It's a cool idea, but it requires *a lot* of work. Plus, I don't know if it'd be any more helpful than the site. Seems to me like EF puts a lot of time and energy into making their site amazing and up-to-date. I'm not sure having a physical display would improve things. Plus, we're able to contact toy companies online via this website.

I'd totally show my face for an Expo like that. I'd love to go. I'd attend the conferences JR talks about too, but they are way too far away to even be feasible.

I think it sounds fun, but a lot of work. I didn't know there were similar expos, I would love to go to one. I love to travel

I'd definitely show my face too. Many people who have high privacy go to expos. Most Expos have name stickers or whatever that indicates privacy levels. Not to mention most will also allow you to use your online pseudonym as well as long as you register with your actual name.

I would too, because it would mostly be people in the 'biz.

FetishFest convenes in Vegas every year, my guess would be that Eden could have a booth there.

I've been involved in conferences before (of the medical nature) and they are a Biotch to set up. The dates, the venue, the speakers, the booths etc. But, they usually go over so well, it's worth the work.

Places in Vegas would have the least problems with a convention of this nature. But, if Eden were to have one in Chicago, I'd be happy to help. Finding a venue, which wouldn't have a puritanical stand on such things may or may not be a problem.

We've had problems having breastfeeding conventions, all over the country. People get so offended and hotels seem to be conservative with some exceptions.

But, what fun. I'm even willing to bet I could get My Man to come along. He came to ONE breastfeeding and lactation convention and was overwhelmed. Basically he was just there to take care of the kids, while I gave talks and schmoozed with colleagues.

I read about one fetish society that booked themselves as 'financial seminars' whenever they got together for a convention. Nobody went around in festishwear, but they did discuss their lifestyles freely inside the meeting rooms.

The fetish cons I go to try to book out the entire hotel. If that happens, they can run around freely in fetish wear. Love it.

We try to be a part of existing events so we reach new people too. A reviewer meet-up could be really fun, but it could flop too, due to people wanting their privacy.

Also, a lot of industry events and trade shows are just for manufacturers, retailers, buyers, and distributors. They're not generally open to the public. You must have credentials to register, and you must have a badge to enter.

The shows that are consumer shows are usually based more around porn and less around toys.

For the professional conferences I attend, often the graduate schools will host get-togethers during the conference. Rather than hosting an entire convention, which is probably more than Ef wants to do, perhaps EF could host a gathering of the EF community at one of the public conventions available, either a lunch or dinner gathering.

A EF Community gathering would be cool but I doubt I'd be able to go unless it was local to me which would be a problem for many I would imagine.
