Feature requests - August 2010

Contributor: Tuesday Tuesday
Not that Neuron Geek is dying of boredom and needs more work, but there's a feature I've been wanting for quite a while.

-Allow users to set selected forum threads on 'ignore' so they don't see them anymore.

I've seen this in other forums.

The Edenpoints system has succeeded in increasing activity in the forums and that's great to see, but the seriousness and value of the forum is dropping somewhat in my opinion.

I'd love to see that added as well.

Something else I'd love to see? Now that I'm dealing with students, the mail system is getting slightly painful to deal with. I'd love to see a feature like something that Fetlife uses - where I can go to the user's profile and click "Our Conversations" and it will bring up the messages that I've had only with that user. As a mentor, I'd love that.

I agree with this, I would *love* an ignore button.

Also, I'd like to see some indication, perhaps just a green dot next to the +3 (or whatever number) to let you know if someone replied to a post you made in a thread. Sometimes I've lost interest in a thread but still want to know if someone specifically replied to a post of mine.

Notifications to your inbox when someone posts on your wall..?
I don't always check my email, and sometimes the e-mails are really delayed :/

And I REALLY like the idea about getting notified if/when someone replies to your thread posts.

AGREED! I would love this too.

You can in a way. You can be told when there are new posts on a thread.

Yeah, but once there are like +34 it gets hard to go through all of the new pages just to see if someone has made a comment in relation to your post.

What about an "@(insert username)" thing like Facebook has? It automatically tags you and notifies you of who said it and what was said.

They mean a distinction between 'Reply' and regular post. Like now I just replied to you, instead of just adding a post to the thread.

I'd also love an ignore button for threads. There have been a lot of silly (or multiple) threads go up recently.

I also agree with the being notified when someone writes on your wall. I checked mine two days ago and realized, like four people wrote on it and I didn't know!

Also, I'd love to see a way to subscribe to comments on certain reviews. A lot of the time I ask questions to reviews and then forget which product I was asking about so later I can't go back and look at the answers. (Either this or make a way to only see your latest activity and not everyone who you follow)

Here is a tutorial on using Alerts. It's on a specific product, but you could get the gist of it.

I agree with all of this

Oh good point for the wall and commenting on a review.

But the alert for new discussion on product is only if there is a forum post that is started from the product page. We mean getting alerts when someone comments on a review after we asked a question in the 'Comments' section.

Some of these ideas are good, but I wouldn't want a notification EVERY TIME there is something new on my wall. It seems like, already, it fills up so fast, that I can't access things that happened two days ago, or every yesterday. Unless we could CHOOSE whether or not to have this option checked. I would opt out of this one, as my email account is already a mess. (I never erase anything!)

I figure if I don't like a thread, I just ignore it anyway.

But, it would be nice to know when someone posts on a thread I started. Sometimes I forget I started one, and am only reminded when someone says something on an other thread similarly.

Also MORE than 7 pages of history in our wall would be NICE (if there is already a way to do this, forgive me, I learn message boards by trial an error and haven't found a way to go back further than this) because if I want to see things that were posted a day or two ago, I usually miss them.

Over the weekend I got the box set of the first season of the Justice League (late 70's, pre-Legion of Doom). Anyway, in one episode this super genius guy created a ray gun that made people unnaturally smart. There heads became enormous from having a larger brain. So upon reading Tuesdays initial post, the first thing that popped into my head was that genius ray

Yesssssssssssssss on the wall notifications. Or, specifically, profile comments. I just went to check mine and I have pages of them I never noticed before!

Yeah, it's weird how some notifications are standard and some not - and you don't know until you see that you're not getting some. Bah!

Doing a tutorial on it now

Being able to ignore or check off forum threads you aren't interested in would be great. But I'd love to be able to tick off and remove items from my wall once I've checked them out, a little like deleting emails you've already read type thing

Isn't that a standard? I've totally been receiving e-mails everytime I get a profile comment. Odd.

I must have my alerts for it turned off, I guess?

I signed up for an alert to be notified of comments on my profile, so I've been receiving them all along too.

I'd like to be able to see the product code on a product page or somewhere on the site, because I cannot add a 'similar product' on a on-site review.

Oh I just found it, so I'll change my suggestion to: Change the place where it's located.

Its on the product page and on the flyout when you mouse over the information icon in a product search result page. Where else would you want it?

Go you your profile page, click Set Alerts, and then check to be notified for comments on your profile.

Took me a while to figure it out

There's another feature I'd like to request.

-Add a way to be notified when someone leaves a comment on a video review.

Right now no notification happens and there's no way to request notification.

I'd also still like the Highest Rated video page to be fixed. However that page is sorted now its not by rating.

Another feature request from me.

-Increase the number of 'pages' of reviews shown on the community page.

I noticed that today's reviews take 5 of the 6 offered pages. So we only have slightly more than a day of reviews to scroll through. Why not increase this to 10 or better yet 20 so we have a chance of seeing all the new reviews even if we miss a day?

The best way to get to the older reviews is to use the RSS feed. That'll let you go back quite a ways and catch the reviews that you miss when they're not on the community page. It doesn't list any that are follow-up reviews either, which makes them easier to go through. I almost always end up reading them this way.

I'd like to see the most current posts 1st instead of last - navigating through to the last page is a hassle.
