When buying a sex toy, what is the most aspect of the toy that makes you decide to purchase it? Especially, when you're considering a bunch of toys along the same lines such as all prostate massagers, all g-spot vibrators, all couples romance kits, etc.
What is the primary focus when buying a sex toy?

Oh my...I just stared at all those options for many minutes, pondering, debating with myself. How can I just pick one? That was tough, but I figure if a toy isn't going to fit right (i.e. be too big, small, wide, or short), it's not for me. I guess that might not apply so much to clit vibes...but, oh well. Interesting question!

If I'm looking at a bunch of similar products and trying to pick one, I'll favor those that come from a brand I trust, or a brand that has established a pretty good reputation for itself. That doesn't mean I'm against trying a new brand, but I do have a tendency to avoid brands I've had bad experiences with or have read bad reviews of, such as Pipedream and Cal Exotics (though CE is starting to shape up a bit).

I usually look by material first, and then a lot of the other features you have listed.

I usually use the phthalates free option in the search engine and work from there. If I am searching for a vibe I always check for AA battery type toys. Color, quality of product and brand reputation also influence my choice.

I had to pick other cuz it's so dependent upon what type of toy that I couldn't pick any one of the options!

I actually check all of that every time..
but its a deal breaker for me from the start if its not made of something safe..
having mostly positive reviews is always nice and makes me feel at ease when I'm buying it. If it does not have any reviews I'm not likely to buy it over something that does have a few reviews..
it all depends really...

I should clarify- what is the ONE most important aspect- just a singular thing that takes you from considering a toy to actually buying it?

If that's the case than price. I'm cheap- well, most of the time.

I always filter by material first, so I suppose it's the primary focus, then price.

Um.. what it does? Is that "feature"?

I feel the same. It really depends on what I'm looking for! For dildos, it's often length/circumference.. I always take into account material, and if there are reviews, I try to read them all!

Really, what it can do. I'd take an elastomed toy that's bound to rock my world over a so-so looking pure silicone toy any day.

I've found that well written reviews make me curious about a toy, and curiosity is really the strongest motivator in getting me to spend money.
09/06/2009
Well, hell. I chose material because if it isn't safe, I won't get it. But that isn't the first thing I look at. I look at a ton of things based on what I am looking for.

It's obviously different depending on the toy, but as you specified (looks like some folks missed it!) if it's for several similar toys, the thing I'll be looking for is durability. I don't mind paying more for something that is made better and will last even if there is a cheaper option that will work about the same.

the first thing for us is Material for there is latex allergys in this house

One word: quality.

I'm weird. I like odd colored things. I've bought things JUST for the color before. Even some things I've never used. I'm a big 'looks' person. If it doesn't get me off mentally I don't want it in my cooch, haha.
Obviously features and such do play a large role, but for example... the Vamp. I got it for the color and the sparkles. I hate Twilight, and I already have a Sire. I didn't NEED it at all.
Materials don't bother me much. But I like silly extra features. I have a toy that has this rainbow glowy bit to it and I love it but, its an ANCIENT ur3 formulation and it's kinda.. drying out? if that makes sense since I never used to powder them, so it's due for a replacement.

I have to go with positive reviews. Materials are of some concern, but unless it's really bad, I don't mind the different materials. I just want to know that the toy will work with me. I'm with Darling Dove that I want it to be pretty too. Doesn't have to be jaw-dropping. Just not ugly.

For me, some brands have proved themselves stellar. Aslan Leather, Outlaw Leather, Vixen Creations, Tantus, Fun Factory, Spare Parts, Vibratex, Kink Lab, Phallix, Don Wands...... Some are hit or miss- Colt, Doc Johnson, Topco, California Exotics, Shanes World and even Happy Valley and Fleshlight.
For me, materials are important. I wont buy glass that is just tempered and not borosilicate. I won't buy jelly. Jelly toys have never made it an entire month without melting in room temp, Hawaii. Elastomer and cyber whatever is ok with a condom, but for use with a partner, only silicone will do.
Pretty for me is not necessary. Not too feminine is necessary. I do purchase sex toys for gal friends. I've bought the Vamp and a pink Bendy for a friend's Christmas, and a harness. She's moving to Alabama.
Durable is what I look for, and I tend to be brand loyal. My dildos are generally Vixen's and harnesses from Outlaw or Aslan. I did toss the Commando. It was the only product from them that ever didn't overexceed or meet expectations. It's not supposed to bleed, but it tattooed my hips every usage.
I'll spend money on a well made design and quality products. A hundred dollar dildo that feels real to my partner is worth more than 10 mediocre, party colored ones that are not meant to survive long.

This survey needs to allow for multiple selections. I certainly take into account multiple factors including brand, price, power level, noise level, size, materials and especially reviews.

I always see what it i made of first that is important to me because my body is very sensitive. So I don't want to have a puff puss

I look for what I think will pleasure me first, then positive review, then cost.

I usually just stick to certain brands that I have had good success with. There are also the reviews and material it is made of.
