I had an item in my cart and was doing other things on the site. When I went to put through my purchase it was gone. I am MAD, MAD, MAD!!! It says it is no longer available. When it goes in the cart it should stay there. Has anyone else had this issue?

Yeah, I after reading this I checked and noticed it happened to me too. It also took off all the promotions that were applied, even though they are still valid, I had to apply them again.
I also had a couple items in my compare that are gone too, I think everything might have refreshed?

If the compare and promos all changed, then the site may have refreshed. But if it is just sitting in your cart and you haven't paid for it, it can be sold to someone who checks out before you. Kinda like first come, first serve.

I am a very unhappy customer. No other place I shop do they steal stuff out of your cart while you shop. The other items in my cart were still there. However, since I couldn't get free shipping I just dumped them. If EF does not make it right with me then I will do my shopping elsewhere. The stuff was more expensive here than on another site but since I thought EF actually cared about their customers, I was willing to pay a bit more. Don't care about me you lose my loyalty. From now on I will be shopping where I get the lowest price.

The thing is, if you haven't placed the order yet, the item is not technically "yours." Yeah, it's in your cart, but if the item was the last one in stock and someone else has it in their cart, and places their order before you do... of course it's going to remove it from your cart, as you can't order an item that's not in stock.

To add -- I have had this happen while shopping other sites. For instance, if I am shopping on Amazon; if I have an item in my cart and that item goes out of stock before I place my order, the item is taken from my cart. A little message shows up telling me this is what happened, but still, it's taken from my cart.

I've had this happen while shopping MANY sites, in fact. It's not uncommon.
05/18/2013
Yes it has happened to me a couple of times and I did not get upset I just was not fast enough then someone else at getting it. That is why it is best to make your purchase right then and there because if someone else is looking at the same thing you are and they make their purchase then you get left out. It is not uncommon at all. Just prepare yourself for next time. Orders are always going out the faster you are the better.
This has also happened to me too I placed a order but at the warehouse they will fulfill everyone's order I had missed out on something and they reimbursed me back. The people who placed their order before me beat me to it so by time it got to them stocking my stuff to ship out to me they ran out. I am just glad they reimbursed me back.

You can't say that they are stealing from you. If you did not place your order when you did that is your fault not the sites fault.

That's happened to me a few times; stuff being removed from my cart and having my gift cards/discounts removed requiring me to do it all over again.
It's happened to me here, and on some other sites as well both while in North America and here in China. When I've asked about it the one time on another site, similar to what SMichelle said happened. They replied saying it's not "mine" till money exchanges hands, but thank-you for shopping at our store and hope you visit us again soon.

It's virtual cart. Essentially you're putting it on hold. But holds are indefinite.

This is an important point, really.
I have had an item sitting in my cart for 3 days, while I try and decide if it's something I really want to purchase at this time. In all honesty, it'll probably sit there for another week or so, too, while I wait for pay day. Does this mean that EF should be unable to sell the item to someone else while it's sitting in my cart for a week +, despite the fact that no money has changed hands?
05/19/2013
That is not stealing, and has happened to me on most other sites I have shopped at. I do just as SMichelle explained. I'll keep it there for a while and a lot of the time it will disappear. I don't really think they should have to hold something if it isn't paid for yet.
05/19/2013
It hasn't happened to me yet. It would be nice if there was a temporary hold, like, if you put something in your cart you can hold it for a few hours before the site releases it back.
05/19/2013
Yes, it has happened to me. It's frustrating but I think it's like that anywhere. What ticks me off is when my order does go through and then I get an email telling me only part of my order is going out because something is on back order. If it angered me enough, I'd just go somewhere else.
05/19/2013
It sounds like the low stock issue is really becoming problematic
05/19/2013
It is business... a lot of sites dump a virtual cart after 24 hours. Hell, sites like fab, ruelala and ideeli where they only do flash sales will hold something for less than 30 minutes. Perhaps EF needs a public policy on how long something can be held in your cart?
05/19/2013
I've had it happen several times. I always figured it was because it went out of stock before I actually purchased it. It's frustrating, but I've never been mad about it. It's also happened to me at Amazon. I think it's a common practice among online retailers.
05/19/2013
I'm sure it just went out of stock at exactly the wrong moment. I'm sure it's frustrating, but what can you do if they don't have anymore?
05/19/2013
It's happened to me before...things sold out before I finished checking out/making up my mind, but it's an online company, so I'm not upset about it. I hadn't paid yet, so it wasn't mine. *shrugs*

Thanks for this awesome reply, this is exactly the case. It's not yours until the order is complete and if there is only one in stock and someone else has it in their cart and orders first the inventory is automatically updated and it will be removed from other carts. I have also had this ha ppen at many other sites when ordering. It is not at all uncommon.

An alert can be set so anyone interested in the item will notified if/when it's returned to stock.

lol! In a shocking display of irony, this actually happened to me yesterday. The item I was buying went out of stock as I was applying my gift cards to my order. Ah well. I picked something else from my wishlist instead.
