May-December Relationships

Nina has some really interesting things to say this week about younger women dating older men.

What's your take on it? Have you been involved in a relationship with a much older person (male or female)? Is/was it a positive experience?

Do you agree with Nina that these kinds of relationships have unique benefits and that there's nothing wrong with getting involved with someone old enough to be your dad... or mom?

My wife is 11 years younger and it's been fantastic from day 1 to now day 7,591 (nearly 21 years). People really have a hard time understanding how well we get along despite the age difference - we've actually never had a serious fight.

We attribute the success to shared values and great sex - not complicated but very effective for us.

When I was 22 I had a brief encounter with a married (yet separated, or something) man in his thirties, and it was some of the best sex I've ever had. He knew what he was doing, way more so than any of the other men closer to my age. Since it wasn't a relationship, I can't speak to anything other than the shagging, which was most definitely a positive experience for me at least. He seemed to enjoy himself as well.

I am currently with a man who is 14 years older than me and it is by far the healthiest and most stable relationship I have ever been in, in addition to him being the most compatible I have ever been with, on all imaginable levels.

It really depends upon the individuals in question. I've always had an older man fetish since junior high (none had taken advantage of me) when I realized that older men were kinder than guys my own age. I carried it on into my early 20's when I met my husband who was ten years older than me. (More like a May-October thing.) My marriage was a sick one - he wanted a mommy and I thought I had to live with my mistake. We signed the divorce papers three weeks ago.

It doesn't work out when one (or both) has more issues than National Geographic.

My current relationship is what would be a May-December relationship (though I like to call it an April-October relationship). We're 18 years apart, and it's the best thing I've ever had. I've always dated older men, so it's not really anything new, but this surely is the largest age difference I've experienced.
