EdenCommunity: “Supportive” Only Begins to Describe It - Click here to read this great article by LadyDarknezz!

LadyDarknezz joined us in September of last year; though her journey to Eden may be quite a bit different than our own. You see, LadyDarknezz has an illness that causes her to be in pain, quite a lot of pain actually. She has no control over the flare-ups and the treatments are risky.

After losing her job and having to take medical leave from school, it's probably a safe bet to say she was at her wit's end. Thinking on ways to improve things, she decided to search "sex toy shops" where she landed on Eden.

Being a Christian, she was a little off-put by the choice in the name and after she checked herself (remembering she was indeed searching for sex toys), she began dabbling in all of the things Eden has to offer. It wasn't long before she learned about things she had never heard of - alternative sex and lifestyles that weren't talked about elsewhere in life.

Take a read through her journey and then come back and tell us about your own! Is there a stigma, hang up, or an illness you've been able to deal with a little easier since joining Eden?

Usually, these polls are public. For the sake of this poll, we're going private. I think you'll see why.

I have always been a "To each their own" kind of guy. Never really had problems with other lifestyles as long as they were not forced upon me. I grew up in a religious family and that religion was forced on me until I was 16, even still my mom preaches to me (even though we still go to church). So ya, don't push your way of life on me and we'll get along great.

Other than back problems, joys of being tall and stupid, never had any illnesses that would stop me from doing the things I love. But as I grow older physical limitations are becoming more of an issue. Nothing to bad, we just have to find new ways of coping with stiff muscles and joints.

I was not quite sure about what to check for question one. I have anxiety issues, which cause stress, which causes a loss of libido. So I put I have a bit of a psychological barrier.

I've always just left people to their things, but by gaining knowledge I've become less apathetic and more accepting. While I otherwise would not care at all if someone was transexual, now I feel more compassion and sympathy for what they go through.

I'm tolerant of... tolerance. As long as someone's lifestyle doesn't harm an other person, or go against an other person's consent, it's OK with me. I also believe people need to be as honest with themselves as possible. It's SO easy to make excuses for ourselves, yet not allow them in others.

As for illness, I've had two related chronic pain conditions for years. Suffice it to say, I'm in pain about 90% of the time. It's something, that with good health care, you can live with. Without healthcare, I probably would have shot myself in the head years ago. Seriously, Chronic Intractable Migraine is no joke, and it's very difficult to treat. I feel very grateful that I have a Neurologist who is brave and willing to treat my conditions (I also have Fibromyalgia, which some doctors don't even believe exists) honestly and bravely, even when my insurance company gives him a hard time.

I try to not let these interfere with my sex life. Sex seems to help with migraines for me. The release gives me a shot of endorphin that I am badly in need of. Not to mention good sex can take your mind off of your pain.

There are situations where the pain is just too severe. It makes me irritable and nasty. I'm working on it.

I just wanted to thank everyone for being so supportive here, and really making a difference in my life! This place really has opened my eyes to so many things, and I don't regret ever stepping out of my comfort zone to find this place! I wasn't aware that many other members here had their own health issues that interfered with their lives. I do my best to cope with this stuff, but it definitely gets the best of me some days. I really enjoyed writing the Sexis article and I hope to write many more sometime in the future!

I have been diagnosed with ADHD, Bi-Polar Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I take several different medications, and the side effects have made sex difficult. I still maintain all function and the need to orgasm is still there, and while I still very much desire my partner, I find getting in the mood to do the deed harder than it used to be. Sometimes I feel like masturbation is so much easier, that why bother. To say that the idea of my selfishness in ignoring my partner's needs complicates my head even more is an understatement. I am slowly working my way back to where I used to be though, so no worries. Eden community has helped in a big way, while I don't usually like to bother folks with my issues, The stories of similar situations and the advice provided on here on Eden Forums has shown me that I am not alone.

See all of the things we didn't know about each other? We're never alone. Somewhere, someone knows what it's like to be in our shoes. We just have to reach out and find them.

I don't really have any illnesses or anything of that sort that effects my sex life. Unless you want to count me being shy as effecting it since I need to talk to someone to get them in my bed later...Haha. But I am getting better with that. However, Eden has still helped me a LOT. There's a lot of things this site and the people have opened me up to and taught me about and I just love it. There's been a couple things I was interested in trying, and Eden taught me about it and how to go about it as well as opened my eyes to things I never would have thought of. Like, it NEVER crossed my mind to try a glass dildo. And honestly, I love them. haha.
