Jamie Eason is a fitness model and bodybuilder with a deep respect for body image and a greater love for Christ. The two worlds collided when her husband had a chance to perform for a church in Texas. Why? Because early in her bodybuilding career she had dared to do a few magazine shoots that pictured her in lingerie or tiny bikinis.

One of the key foundations of the Christian community is: judge not, lest you be judged. In this situation, Jamie's husband is being judged for Jamie's actions. And we have to ask if this is fair or resembling the virtues Christians hold so dear.

You can see the images in question on Jamie's website, but they pale in comparison to what one would find in Maxim or FHM.

What are your experiences within the Christian community? Have you ever experienced anything like this, or know someone who has?

Wrong for letting Jamie's career affect her husband's.

Right in their decision, it's their event, they can hire whomever they choose.

Neither wrong nor right, but it could have been handled differently.

I'm undecided...

Does fitness modeling or lingerie modeling violate Christian virtues?
4
Absolutely!
Not at all...
18
Maybe? It depends on how much clothing a person isn't wearing?

..
Do you think the Church would have the same reaction if it were her husband who modeled instead of her?

Probably not...

I personally feel that in a religious situation, the modeling is not or should not have been considered as a factor of hiring her husband. As long as she is modestly covered--meaning no sexual exposure of body parts, then they were appropriate pictures and have no bearing on religious beliefs unless the religion has specific manners and codes of dress. There are some religions that this would be inexcusable --off the top of my head, amish, muslim, etc.,-- but that is not the case in this situation.

Right? I'm pretty sure I've seen Christian women in bikinis before (namely my aunts, mother, grandmother, sisters...).

Great point. Just because it is in a magazine, doesn't mean it is different.

It is the church responsibility to welcome all with open arms not pass judgment.

This is another horrifying example of "Christians" using fear and shame to control people. Wearing a bikini for a photo shoot make her no less a Christian than my picking up a scalpel would make me a doctor. It should also not adversely effect her husband's career.

I do not attend church because I feel that organized religion has become rampant with situations like this. God is love. God is acceptance. God is not a name to hide behind and shame others. These are the kind of people who will get to the Pearly Gates, spouting their devotion to God, and he will say "I do not know you."

My heart goes out to her and the pain she must be feeling about the shame and rejection by her fellow Christians. The world needs more Christians like Jamie, who teach the word of God through the way they live and how they treat other people.

More so-called Christians giving actual Christians a bad name.

Seriously. In fact, I see anti-Christian posts all the time, especially on Facebook, because of things like this. The ones that really go off the deep end are the ones that get the most attention, so they think we are *all* like that. It's sad.

In the images in question, the "private parts" are covered, but barely. Honestly, I think that for some of the church elders, it's more the poses and facial expressions that are giving them pause.

I, personally, don't see anything wrong with the pictures, but Jamie and her church obviously do. Jamie has said repeatedly that she feels she was wrong in posing for them, and she explained why in the video she posted on Facebook.

However, I'm of the mind that a man should not be held responsible for his wife's actions.

And regardless, the church preaches forgiveness. If we believe the teachings of the Bible, Jamie's god has forgiven her. I feel like the church should do the same, lest they be accused of thinking they know better than their god.

UGH slut shaming is so stupid. They overacted wayyyyy too much. Most of my family is super religious and I'd see them having the same reaction. :/

this is why women stay so private about things. Just let the church find out you are closet pole dancer - fitness or not. Just one more thing society can label. Religion of most kinds just can't seem to help judging but then if all were perfect why would they need it. Just Saying. (And no I am not anti-christian just frustrated by lack of Judge not lest you be judged).

The "early in her career" part probably wasn't something they took into consideration. She was probably just trying to get ahead, who can blame her?

Maybe the church was right about this, it is their event. Maybe not. Whether or not this particular decision is correct I see this article to be a wholesale condemnation of the church. Don't lose sight of the beauty of the forest because of the ugliness of a few trees.

It is sad that the church had a resulting negative attitude about her husband. If I were him, I would "shake the dust from my feet" and walk from that that church.
I guess I would not be welcome in that church, since I wear bikinis, and am physically fit.

Haha, I love your comment. I agree he should leave. I would be very angry with my husband if he allowed people to disrespect us that way.
