I didn't know too much before joining, but now I've been rabidly reading up on this sort of thing. I need to make sure I know what I'm talking about when I do my first toy review (after the item's delivered).
#EdenU - Product Material and Safety

This is really helpful, especially for those who are new to EF. When I first started I had no idea about the material scale. When we first experimented with toys the only options at my local sex toy shop were jelly.
Now that we've discovered glass and silicone I don't think there is any going back!

My favorite toy materials are definitely glass and silicone. I love the material safety chart of EF - it's really helpful. Before EF, I knew absolutely nothing about sex toy materials.
09/19/2012
I had some knowledge of toy materials, but have learned so much more after joining EF. My wife prefers pure silicone because of its safety, texture and firmness. She doesn't like anything that is extremely hard and she finds silicone to be perfect.
09/19/2012
After joining EF we have become more aware of safety with sex toys. I do not think most people know that some toys are safer than others. Glad that Eden is educating it's customers! It's another reason that we recommend EF.
09/19/2012
I didn't know anything about material safety before Edenfantasys and my favorites now are silicone, glass, and stainless steel!
09/20/2012
This is interesting, although I wish the cleaning section on the materials list was more in depth. Before I joined, I didn't know anything about material, although I had heard about phthalates before. Thanks to eden, I prefer silicone and plastic, since those tend to be the safest vibrator materials, I haven't seen enough glass or metal vibrators, so I haven't tried them yet. I also like some softer materials, like TPR, or PU coated plastic
09/20/2012
Thanks for the helpful info! I really like the material safety rating scale that is available on this site. All I knew before was that silicone was safe but expensive.
09/20/2012
I knew nothing before I came here.
Now my favorite materials are silicone (for its safety) and metal for the hot/cold retention.

Does that mean that all of these items are harmful and should be shunned? No. There are ways to lessen the perceived risk. Just like the porous toys, toys containing phthalates can be covered with condoms or other protective materials (latex or nirile gloves) to minimize concerns.Your Assignment: - Study the Sex Toy Innovations infographic, there will be a fun quiz on it next Monday!- Did you know anything about toy materials before Edenfantasys?- What are your favorite toy materials and why?

I definitely knew a little about toy materials before, I've always thought it best to stay away from the jelly toys because of their propensity to have bacteria problems - turns out I don't like the material anyways.

I prefer 100% silicone toys, metal, and glass, because I hate having to worry about what is touching what, it's a pain in the butt.

I knew some of the material stuff, but I've definitely learned a lot from eden

Great lesson Stormy

If not for EF, I never would have known to watch out for all these different materials, and the way they're rated for safety, and even comfort. This site is the best.
09/22/2012
I had no idea the skin-like ones were most porous (though I suppose it does make sense. I suppose silicone is the way to go! =]

I actually only knew about Jelly, hard plastic and that phthalates were bad before becoming a reviewer. I had been purchasing toys for years only knowing to look out for pthaalates and that jelly could be bad, but I liked jelly because it's soft and was cheaper than silicone!

Now, I know a lot more about them being porous and such.
The quiz sounds exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing all about it.
My favorite toy materials are actually TPR (like Evolved's TPR used in Flutter, Sugar, etc.) I like the slight firmness, but squish it has since I tend to like pressure. I love silicone, but find most silicone toys are only a soft thin layer of silicone over a hard plastic, which means pain and/or no squish or give for someone who likes pressure or a softer toy. Also, a lot of the silicone, higher quality toys are so large that I can't use them, so I really have more TPR and other soft toys than I do silicone. I do love the super squishy silicone used in Cleo and Matryoshka though. Those are awesome because it's a thick layer of silicone instead of a thin layer over a hard toy.
My second most-used material is glass.

I LOVE silicone. starting to really like glass. and don't hate plastic.

Wow...I've never thought about his before now. My faves are usually silicone or glass. I will think about this every time I get something new now, lol.

I finally coaxed the bf into trying out the nJoy Pure wand (stainless steel) and he absolutely loved it - just like I knew he would. I love that some of the toys in our collection are safe enough for us both to use.

I didn't know much at all about the different sex toy materials before I started visiting EF. I just assumed the difference was in how it felt, but it didn't occur to me that some would be much more safer than others. Now I prefer silicone or hard plastic toys, and I absolutely avoid jelly.
