#BillofRights - 8th Amendment - You Have the Right to Choose

Contributor: Ansley Ansley

Whether we work, have families, or go to school, it's a choice. We decide the things we want in our lives that we think will make us happy, often reaching for instant gratification. This goes all the way to what we consume, be it knowledge or that third slice of pizza you know you're going to regret later but eat anyway. All choices have consequences; some good, some bad but either way there will be a result or an outcome from every decision we make in life.

How many of us really focus on making informed, educated decisions in order to bring satisfaction to our lives? If presented with options "A" or "B" and you find you like neither option, are you able to create a magical third "C"? In terms of goals, do you have a five year plan or a ten year plan? If so, will you please tell us about it?

I tend to over think life decisions. I'm always worried I'll make a bad choice, so I angst over it forever. I'm not good at coming up with the C option, but my husband usually is. Thank goodness for him because I was not blessed with much common sense. lol

I have no five or ten year plan because I don't work. Nothing to really plan.

I used to make serious decisions constantly and thrive on the edge. That is where I performed the best, had my strongest and most viable ideas and had the plan to back it up.

Now I need to stop, seriously think and focus and hopefully, make the correct decision. Not good when you own a retail and an online business. I still have my moments--and notebooks--of viable ideas and plans. But they are for other people. (If you want to start a business, let me know--my notebook is full of 50 separate businesses(and still growing), cost projections and business plans...)I am unable to implement them anymore. Even mild brain damage will affect your decision making, impulse and control--not to mention focusing and being able to follow through on a business plan. To be honest, one car wreck has destroyed my life, common sense and ability to function as a strong business person. I still have the ideas, but am unable to carry them out due to my lack of focus.

My online business is one that I seriously want to grow and continue. I love restoring the motorcycles, it has small and very tedious work as well as big and exciting work attached--so I can function and focus easily without jumping around. However, that is not a perfect deal for me either, decision-wise. BUT---after this last deal, I have gotten better and realize that other bikes do come around.

I had $1200 from a bike sale and found 2 CZ motorcycles for sale. One was a 1962 250 and the other was a 1974 175 Trail.....the price for both--$750.Oh, yeah--gas $225 and they were two states away. But with a partial restoration on the 60's model valued at $5600 and the 70's model $4800--full resto's are double. You also have to have money to pay the bills, get the parts and powder coat the frames......I fell off my 5 year plan and got carried away with these bikes. I will see one hell of a profit next year--but really ate it in the meantime!!!

My five year plan--Sell the sign business ASAP! Get a full website, parts inventory and informative on the old, vintage and collectible bikes. Offer services for restoration to the public and open a consignment cycles brick and mortar to compliment the restorations.

I'm good at 5 year plans! My husband develops 5 year plans and I can usually shot it down with in a year.

Five year plan? Ten year plan? That's crazy. Life's too unpredictable for that. I mean, I contribute to my pension, so I'm not completely irresponsible, but I don't expect life in five years to be what I expect.

I have general goals I want to achieve, but I haven't really placed them as a certain length of time. I just try to get one goal accomplished and then move on to the next.

So many decisions in life. It's always good to plan, but life changes so much it can be difficult sometimes to continue with those plans.

I don't have a carved-in-stone plan for my life, but I make a conscious effort to really listen to my heart and be true to myself (which includes being true to the important people in my life - kids, husband, etc) when making decisions. It's easy to let "noise" in and forget your true goals/needs/desires and get off track when decisions come along. I've found that if I'm really doing what I know is right and I'm not getting distracted by material things/'helpful' advice/etc, I end up making the right decision. So far anyway.
