Looking for writers for body image series

Contributor: Carrie Ann Carrie Ann
I just got a terrific post from someone that features what it's like to live as a "skinny minny".

I'd love to do a series on body image at different weights. Anyone out there in the size 6-10 range, the size 12-16 range and the "plus" size range willing to write something for Eden Cafe?

Looking for around a thousand words, pay would be a $50 gift card.

Shoot me an email if you're interested. EdenCafeAdmin at gmail dot com

I'd write for you, but I'm a man and much smaller than a size six. I'm not sure what you're wanting exactly. Could I still write for you and have it fictional?

I'm looking more for non fiction accounts of what it's like for women to be certain body sizes, to show how body image can be an issue regardless of your size - or not an issue, either way. Fiction really wouldn't work for this series and we haven't actually branched into fiction at all on the blog.

If we do, though, I'll certainly keep you in mind.

Still looking for folks size 12 and up!

Please, please, please don't make me end up having to write one of these myself.

I'm a size 2-4 so I'd be curious to read what the post is about being a "skinny minny." I certainly have a lot of thoughts on it! I've been skinny all my life and I don't think people realize how hard it is exactly. I'm naturally skinny, I don't do anything to make myself this way and I have gotten some really rude and nasty comments from people throughout my life. It's hurtful.

Great idea Carrie, I'll be looking forward to reading the posts on the body image series.

Ok. You guys rock. Now I just need something from someone in the 14/16 range and something from a plus sized gal.

I think you'll really like what our "small sized" girl wrote. It's pretty much a lot like what you just said.

I'm a plus sized girl- So you're looking for a personal account of my experiences related to body image? so for example, how someone may treat me differently because of my weight, or self consciousness etc..?

Yup. Exactly. It seems like everyone, no matter their size, has body image issues and issues with how they're treated and feelings that go along with their particular size.

I'm really digging the idea of seeing all variety of sizes talking about it; to see how similar or different our perspectives are.

You talking about waist size? I flucuate from a 10-14 depending on the pants, but I normally wear men's clothes and that's usually a 34x32.

What exactly would you like said? If we like our weight or not? How others view us? Etc?

I guess I could give this a shot if you'd like me to, not only am I'm not skinny, I don't exactly have a 'feminine' build either.

I think I have all the size ranges pretty much covered at this point. I'll likely be doing the size 14/16 post myself. (Unless I get an offer from someone else that is a solid 14/16. It needs to be from the "not quite plus size but defnitely a curvy girl" point of view)

Thanks, guys, for coming thru so fast! This should be a really interesting series so keep your eyes out on Eden Cafe next week.

Carrie Ann--- just a thought, but Sir's post got me to thinking that if you can get them interested it might be cool to read some accounts of what it's like for men of different body types too. Can't help but be curious if they have the same social and psychological issues that women do in regards to body image.

I'm thinking it's a good possibility we'll do so, depending on how these turn out.

Um, totally been there. I had to eat a special diet all throughout puberty just to make me gain weight, and it was torture.

It sounds like we will! I hope so. This is a great idea, I have to say that again. It's so important to take into account how people of plus sizes and small sizes experience certain situations. I've been treated in a way that it seemed like I had no feelings just because I'm small. I'm sure people of all different sizes have experience that too and it's important to practice compassion for everyone. It's not always greener on the other side.

Amen! One of my best friends has to fight to keep her weight in a medically safe range. She's 5'3", and has to work hard to keep her weight above 100. Having seen what she goes through, the grass is definitely not always greener on the other side, and it can be just as hard to have to fight to keep your weight up as it is to have to fight to keep it down.

I would kill to be a skinny minny and wouldn't care what others say. Others who make comments are probably just jealous of how great the skinnies look.

It's no picnic being fat!!!

Same here. I know exactly what you mean. People used to "keep an eye on me" during lunch at school. It was hurtful and uncalled for. Really curious to read this series.

im a big girl but not just heavy ive always been tall and strong and even my head and hands are bigger than other peoples yuh know? i definitly could stand to lose weight but im quite proportionate and even if i did i will never be small or skinny my hands and feet they wont shrink alot of things wont. as a child it always just made me feel like i was fat but bieng taller than all the boys doesnt make you fat it certainly creates for interesting dating years thats for sure. some guys it just feels like "ill be bubbah you be my bitch". as an adult tho i feel lucky cause fat can go wrong in so many ways and i love my curves... but if i have to pose for one more photo with my hubbys bestfriends asian girlfriend i may just have to photo edit me holding her climbing the empire state building.

If you're still looking for someone in the plus size range, drop me a line. I'm definitely a BBW (based on the sizes you are using, a 22-24) and definitely have some things I could say about body image....
