There used to be a function that when there was more than two reviews on a product you could give a reason why you thought you should be able to free review it. One of the most common reasons was, for example, when one of the reviews on it received a poor rating (somewhat useful or lower). Is there anyway that you can still request a product in this way?

As far as I have always known that was only allowed if there was one other review.

There used to be a little box that would pop up and ask you why you felt you should be given the assignment. There are a lot of products that have two reviews, one of which has received a poor rating. This would be an example of a reason one might give (if the box were still around).

There is still the option, but what I was saying was that I've tried it and my reasons have never been accepted (though the two reviews, one verified, one not, were not exactly great).

Oh hmm. I've had more denials lately, too, but reviewers seem to be more active and they're definitely giving out more toys right away with the sponsored and description programs.

As great as a community that EF is, it's still a business, can't give away too much product.
I think 2 verified reviews is a good rule of thumb. I don't think random people's reviews should count though, as there's really no way to track them.
I had a problem finding an item to review too. If you shoot Gary an email, he's a totally cool cat who'll help you out. I think there should also be a "Let Yeti choose" option for monthly reviews. Just look at the gag's he sent out week before last!

Oh really? I haven't seen the box recently that used to come up. Hmm...I'm going to request something as a test and see if I can figure it out. Thanks everyone for your comments and so forth!

Understood, but a lot of the denials are coming from toys where there is, for example, one verified (free or discounted) review and one unverified review. In this case it wouldn't be an excessive amount of product being given away and if one of the reviews is unhelpful it seems to be within the interest of the EF community to allow advanced reviewers to do an assignment.

If you guys are ever curious, you can always email me. The biggest reason requests on newer toys get denied, aside form the obvious (not yet available or having 2 reviews), is when there is already a 2nd review assignment pending (but only one is posted). Another reason a lot of requests for older products get declined, is that we may only have one item left in stock.

As for including a reason... sometimes this does make a difference. Most reasons tend to be more personal, but the ones that get considered are more fact based.
If you tell me that a product that already has 9 reviews, needs another review from you because "you have always wanted to try it" you are not going to get the assignment.
If you tell me that an item with 2 reviews needs your review, because the one review does not include very much specific information, and you have experience with similar items, this is very good reason to consider approving the request.

I understand that. Perhaps it was the reason you stated (only one was left).

I had the "only one left" problem a few times. Gary really helped me out though.

In the justifications I've given in the past, I've said:
-other reviews don't comment on anal use for a toy
-other reviews don't discuss partner use / ease of partner use
-I intended to use a toy vaginally that was geared toward anal use (and only anal use was covered in the reviews so far)
