so I have not been on here in quite some time, but tonight I decided to google my name to look something up. I am a recent college graduate and applying for jobs so I am search my potential employers are googling me as well. Upon looking my name up one of the first things to pop up was a post that I wrote on here. Without deleting my account as I am sure that might not even fix the fact it shows up in the search how do I make sure that anything I have posted on here does not show up in search results. Please help asap.

You'd need to get a forum moderator or an EF employee to edit or delete the post. No forum moderators are around nowadays but you could always try to submit a support ticket to the EF staff. You also need to get search engines (don't forget Yahoo and Bing) to update the cached webpages in their databases; I seriously doubt you can do anything but wait that out. Even after an update, archive.org may have a mirror of the older data.

The moral of the story is be careful with what you associate with your real identity online. For instance, your avatar icon shows a Facebook logo and presumably an actual photo of yourself. Unless you want your Facebook persona connected with this website, you should instead either use an Edenfantasys account or create an anonymous Facebook persona.

Thank you. I did submit a support ticket and i am hoping to get an answer soon. I might try calling EF on Monday as well to see if anything can be done. It is very very important that i get this addressed asap. I tried changing my photo but I can't figure out how to do that nor how to make it to where face book is not connected. how do i go about getting the search engines to update the cached webpages? and what is archive.org thanks again for any tips and advice you can give and for responding.

If you don't want Facebook connected, don't login via Facebook. Logout then create an "Eden Account" and use that to login.

You realistically have no control over what results search engines will produce. archive.org has, among other things, a "Wayback Machine" that has older versions of web pages. If you can find your real name in your posts stored at archive.org, they're there to stay.

Your only course of action with search engines and archive.org would be to convince a webmaster on EF to jump through hoops contacting all these companies to remove specific webpages from their databases.

In general, keep your online personal life separate from your online public life. Use multiple e-mail accounts and social network accounts. Facebook doesn't want people to have multiple accounts but does have privacy settings; make sure your photos, tags, status updates, personal information, etc. are visible to friends only unless you specifically want them to be visible to friends of friends or to the public. When you post on website forums, don't let your account be tracked back to your real name, even on sites devoted to topics as innocent as movies and sports.

Hi SP, I'm curious. How could they find your actual name if you have a user name here ?
