I just spent some time working on a review that I needed to revise as well as writing a follow up for it. In the process, I noticed that the original review had added both formatting and links that I did not add.

I was particularly bothered by a link to a review for another product (not general product pages). I don't think was even relevant. This wasn't a sex guide either.

What is up with this, and is anyone else bothered by the liberties that Eden takes with our reviews? Do I really have to constantly look at reviews to make sure my "writing" reflects My work? Or is the only choice to leave...

They aren't changing your "writing." They're just adding formatting. I don't agree with it either, but it's certainly not going to make me leave.

I agree with Epiphora. If it really bothers you--and really, I've yet to find formatting that makes me THAT angry, even the mangling of my TantraBeam review--then nobody will fuss if you go in and edit it. You could also send an e-mail to the folks in charge and respectfully ask them not to format your reviews.

My more recent reviews have hardly any added formatting, beyond italicizing the toy's name and linking to page relevant to what is being discussed, so I'm surprised that your reviews are apparently getting formatted so much.

Regardless of all that, they really aren't changing your writing. The body of the review is still the same.

I have noticed and it does bother me. Sometimes I find it difficult to read reviews because of it. =/ One time, I even added additional links like that myself and they were all changed.

I disagree. Formatting is bold, italic, underlining or font size. That's emphasis and that's one thing.

Links are by nature designed to lead the viewer to something relevant to the review that the reviewer feels is important for additional information. Those are something that I should choose. If Eden wants a minimum of links I can provide them. However, just because I have certain text in my review does not mean that it should randomly get linked somewhere. Especially to what I consider an unrelated review. In the example I'm thinking of- I feel like it made me look a bit like an idiot. The "why exactly would there be a link here?" question.

In the past the links added have actually been so blatantly stupid that they changed the grammatical correctness of some of my reviews. That at least doesn't seem the case right now, but how far are they going?

Well, links, yeah, that could get annoying if they were linking to things that had nothing to do with what you were talking about. Again, I suggest sending them an e-mail and asking them not to change your links up.

I would love to see these reviews that you are referencing. This sounds so extreme, I'd like to see actual examples of just what it is you mean by some of the generalizations you've made in this thread. Post some links? Let's see when these were published and what the problems are. Thanks!

Sent you a email. The particular review got republished after I went in to edit it. The links aren't there right now. As I mentioned, details are not appropriate in the forum.

We used to be able to add formatting (i.e. italicize a book's name, boldface words for emphasis) ourselves, but I can't find that anymore (and entering tags manually didn't seem to work). Is the formatting option going to come back, or was there some abuse that required it to be removed?

You can do it, at least with assigned reviews.
