We all love how ef has the best toys and an amazing review program. But, I also notice the awesome people that post on this site. I really wish it could be a little more of a social network. Why not make tons of friends with such similar interests! What do you think?
EF should become more of social networking site

I don't mean to sound rude, but what more do you want?
It is a social networking site. Many of us chat outside of Eden and many of us chat internally through the messaging system and on our walls. We now have new online/offline indicators and there are a ton of projects, workshops, meetings, and parties that keep us all involved and together.
The only thing missing is the ability to blog on our profiles about what we're doing and what not, but that's kind of what the reviews and the forums are for, in my opinion.

Well the essence of a networking site is photos, chat, updates, detailed user info. I fully understand that its good already. But to accept that there is no room for improvement is just plain lazy. Or maybe EF is trying to stay away from adding all those additional features.

You can post pictures in the forum, on your wall, in your bio, in your reviews, on product pages.
You can chat via the messaging system, on the forum, on your wall. Or outside of Eden.
Your bio is just as detailed as you want it to be and includes places for your favorite links, favorite products, favorite interviews, resources, and Sexis articles.
Updates? That little blurb next to your user name on the your profile page...that's your place to update how you feel or what you're doing for the day.
You can add favorite contributors and only look at the things they post.
You can get email notifications when a favorite contributor posts a new review.
Am I forgetting anything?

I would lean more towards staying away from adding a lot of those additional features. EdenFantasys is first and foremost a retailer, so the fact that we have this awesome community at all is pretty sweet, at least to me. If we were to start adding things like uploading pictures for random albums and stuff like that, I think that it would be widely underutilized because of the fact that nothing here is all that private; meaning anybody can find my profile and see everything that's on it regardless of their standing in the community. I don't want to put lots of detailed user information on my profile because I don't want the entirety of the internet being able to see it. There is always room for improvement, but I don't think becoming like a full fledged social networking site is the way to go. However, that's just my opinion.

I wouldn't mind a status bar that kept a running history. Other than that, I don't think Eden needs to be a Facebook type thing. The forums provide plenty opportunity to connect with other people. There's also the wall posting and messaging for more one on one conversations. I don't think we need chat rooms and bio pages. I don't know if photo pages would go over given the nature of the site. A lot of people are here anonymously.
01/24/2012
Sometimes I think the ability to get points in the forum makes people post and run. So getting a dialog going is sometimes difficult. I'm not sure if that makes sense. But otherwise, yeah, it's a retailer. This is all a big bonus for us. I'm happy with it!

Edens is an adult toy review site, the rest are extra perks. I DO NOT want to see Edens turn into a social networking site, that would damage the integrity of the site and ruin the anonymity that keeps most people on here and comfortable enough to trust EF. There are plenty of other social sites and opportunities to interact and chat with others on this site. I am not trying to be rude, but I actually like and prefer the exclusiveness of being anonymous and still having the option to make Eden friends or if I so choose, friends for offsite as well.
EF is about trust and confidentiality, there are a lot of amazing people on here and I feel like most of them would not be as open and honest and friendly if it were more socialized. Edens protects us and allows us to make our own individual decisions on what we want to choose to do as far as interacting, personal info, etc. That should be treasured!!

I like it how it is.

If it gets to big it won't be the same and I surely would not be here. I do not have a facebook page and do not want to be a part of a huge social network.

I like it how it is. I internally message, write on others walls etc. I consider a lot of contributors here to be very friendly and nice, but EF is first and foremost a sex shop and I wouldn't want it to change.

Agreed. I have never had a Facebook page, and I do not want to...ever. I stay far away from any of those types of things, so I would not be on Eden if it became more like Facebook. I like it just the way it is.

If you want a Facebook style environment, go to Facebook. I'm going to echo everyone here- if Eden starts to focus on a "social networking site," then the whole purpose of the site would be undermined, which is to make money via sex toys. If it transformed into a social network environment, I would have no interest in being here.
01/24/2012
Love it. As is.

Like everyone else here, I love Eden the way it is now. If YOU want the Facebook type of socializing, then do it on their site. I HATE Facebook's overexposure environment!

It seems like there is a consensus on what people want EF to be.

I REALLY don't want to see a change towards this. It already basically has that aspect in and of itself. We already make friends. I definitely do not want to see it turn into anything that resembles a FB or MS. I hate sites like that and wish they never existed.

This would not be improvement. It would be unnecessary. It's not a social networking website and shouldn't be.

Oh wow - there are enough social networking sites out there - I'd hate to see this become one too.
I love EF the way it is - not to say it can't use improvements but this would be a whole change in focus.
I do "social networking" with folks on here anyway by posting on their wall and vice versa and I've made some online "friends" that are maybe more of acquaintances but I do care about them and love to chat with them.
I think having social networking sites is great - just not for EF.

I do have a Facebook page that I use once in a while, mostly to keep in touch with people I don't see all that frequently. However, my FB page is PG rated. I work in health care, which is a very conservative field and I like my privacy. I have relatives, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles etc on my Facebook page. I have pictures of my kids on Facebook, etc. I honestly don't think Eden (or any sex toy review site) is a place to put pictures of one's children. Sex is for adults.
So, for me, what we have here is perfect. Sex toys in their own place, and the social abilities that this site already provides is great for me.
Mileage and all that.

I agree that the points for being social on the forums can encourage members who aren't really interested in adding to the actual topic.

But we have many wonderful member who are helpful and friendly in the forum.

I feel there are a ton of ways to participate socially. It seems like I am always finding out about some new opportunity to expand my EF participation.
another way is to list your facebook, twitter, etc links on your profile. alot of networking and socializing comes about by linking those up.

I agree with you Sam. I think that becoming a "social site" will seriously detract from the site itself and what its all about. Yes, EF has an amazing community, but honestly, its an online store. They are here to ultimately make money. Its like loitering LOL. Why would they put all that work into a "social networking" idea, when we're all just sittin around yacking and visiting when we're here to help the company/site grow as a retailer, and sell items? I think that 1. It will never happen because there is no profit in it for them. 2. There is PLENTY that is offered to us as a community (and for those of us that contribute to helping EF grow as a site/retailer and assist in sales) and 3. social networking sites are highly overrated. The last thing I want to see is a bunch of high school drama running amok on here. Its happened everywhere else. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace. You name it, its happened there. This is an adult site, adult forums with adult like discussions (and of course the fun/funny stuff too from time to time). But honestly, I come here to get away from the drama and mess that Facebook has become. I have a place that I can go to address relationship/sexual issues without getting the crap that goes along with the social networks.
