i am interested in a few of your products..but have have not been comfortable with the packaging or lack thereof that some of the toys are sent in. I am looking for toys that come in the type of plastic you have to get the scissors out to open up vs.. opening a box and having the toy rolling around out of its box in the box it was shipped in. That makes me wonder if it was returned. I know companies say they don't take returns yet this company took this toy back from me because of the way it was received, so its hard to trust that policy. Any feedback? thanks

Are you saying you ordered a toy that, when you opened the shipping box, was loose and rolling around?

I can see why they would accept a return for that reason...but I do know EF wouldn't send a toy that was returned or had been opened.

I know the cases you are referring to. The clear plastic that just opens up by pulling the tabs apart, right? I don't care for those either, but that is the manufacturer not the store. A lot of items have pictures of the boxes with them, you can always look at those. More of the higher end items come packaged very well. Just look for the more popular brands and be sure to read reviews. A lot of us include packaging with the review, especially when it is really good.

I can only think of one toy that came in a package like this...and it did suck.
Agree ---> J's Alley.
It may be more effort, but you can research the packaging when shopping online. Also, if you go for more of a mid to high range product, you'll see this type of packaging less.
G'luck!

Hi Everyone, CalExotics here...the bulk of items we sell are sealed either in a polybag (boxed items) or shrink wrapped (items in hanging clamshells). There are a few exceptions, and this item is one of them. They come to us directly from the factory sealed in the clear plastic clamshell packaging. Rest assured, we do not resell any returned products (our Warranty Company link sends all returned toys to a designated secure disposal company. In my experience, no retailers EVER take a toy back, so the fear of getting a returned item are slim to none. If a retailer does take a toy back, I am sure it ends up back to us through a distributor, or gets tossed. But,if there is still a concern, ask the retailer or webmaster if the item is shrink wrapped inside the packaging. Like I said, the bulk of what we sell is sealed that way. Oh, by the way...we used to wrap everything inside these clamshells, but the retailers said the customers complained that they could not see the detail of the item...so, damned if you do, damned if you don't! Knowing that a big company like California Exotic Novelties is so reliable for standing behind all their products, and the ease in which we accept warranties and distributor returns, should put everyone's mind at ease that no retailer would resell a return...it's just so easy for them to get a new one from us.And, yes...the newer high-end items are all sealed/wrapped well.

clarification: the packaging sucked, the toy was ok.

Thanks Al!!! Most items I get from Cal Exotics are wrapped in plastic inside a box with the rare exception of a couple of items. However, those items are never a concern to me because a large company would not likely risk their reputation just to save $5 in packaging or whatever.

I wouldn't worry too much about them. I don't think I have ever had to open a toy with scissors, good thing too because I would really mad if it took me 20 minutes to open a toy I had been waiting for. Another thing you can do here at Eden is ask on the forums what the packaging on a certain item is like before you order it.

By the way - we would NEVER re-sell an item that had been returned. NEVER.
We do not control actual packaging, but we can say that it varies depending on the maker - anything from boxes inside boxes to simple zip-lock bags. And it's not always because a manufacturer is "cheap", but often because it suits their aesthetic or ecological desires. Usually that packaging goes in the trash, so this is a case of less is more!
And, when you buy your products from us, the only contact your toy has with people is when being packed/shipped in our warehouse, by gloved employees. No worries there!

Very well put! All of our customers get our products in full case lots, not individual pieces...so, as it leaves our warehouse is how it stays all the way through final shipment to the fulfillment centers. Bravo to Victoria for stating Eden's handling methods!

I'm actually quite against toys that are trapped within little plastic prisons that must be hacked through with a pair of scissors or a box cutter. It's a mood killer! I love it when packages are easy to open, and have yet to experience problems with a toy coming free of its packaging and rolling around the shipping box. Even if this were to happen, I always clean my toys before using them anyway, and I trust the folks at EF, so I'd have no major qualms about it.

@ Al: Of course! I wanted everyone to know that these products are hardly handled at all until they reach the customer. We get things in case packs, within bigger boxes, on pallets.
@ Miss Cinnamon: Exactly! Would you use a new dish without washing it first? Nope. Wash first, people! Hell, I wash all my toys before and after use each time I play. Lint, dust etc, ya know?

I wouldn't even wear new clothes without washing them. I did a project where I swabbed clothes from various places - nice department stores like Gimbels, Strawbridges and Wanamakers (all defunkt now) and grew out staph, strep, e choli, psuedomonas aueriginosa, etc (and I found cryptococcus too!) when I had a job growing bacterium in college. Just because it looks clean does not mean it is.
And certain products like paint, rugs, shower curtains and toys with phthalates off gas for ages.

Great advice! I would also encourage the use of Toy Cleaner (CalExotics, of course ) or warm water and a mild soap. Be sure to dry your toy well before storing, and take care during cleaning to not submerse the battery case...unless it's labeled as waterproof, and even then, I would still take care. Taking good care of your toy will increase its life expectancy and provide hours of pleasure.
