Well its the anthology Women in Lust. Some of the stories are really short.

I'm bad but I want to know how to do a review that makes it to the rumble. I mean - I've written two or three that I was pretty proud of and people have commented on and a couple have even convinced people to go on and buy the product.

What is it that sets a review apart to make it rumble-worthy? (I want my reviews to be high enough quality that they're always that good).

i appreciate seeing photos. if the book does not have diagrams or photos in it, at least a photo of the front/back cover in interesting angles.

be sure to do your research on the author, and include what/if anything they've written before... waht they're known for, etc.

always fill out all the sections in the reviews!

dont' forget to include their language, how the book comes across.

always include quotes to show the reader the style, and to illustrate your points about the book's message.

I think followup reviews get overlooked a lot, because they don't have their own ranking system or anything.

It might be good if we put up a "follow-up guidelines" with some "inspirational examples", like there are in the extended format.

I'm sure among us we can remember a few "inspirational examples"---maybe one where the toy is broken, another where it went from being liked a lot to not liked much, another where it had a learning curve and it grew on them, another where they found a new use..?

I know Red's follow-up reviews have usually been above-average, when I've read them.

I think a little about the author, maybe if youve read past books. Which your favorite story or section of the book. Was it an easy read, stuff like that.

I have a few items this happened to as well.

I dislike to see a follow up days after the original as well, unless something changed and happened to the product.

Yes, definitely important.

Also, for things with batteries---how quickly do they go through batteries? Lots of people write their original reviews too quickly to be able to include that information.

i personally wouldn't do a chapter by chapter overview... just pick out a few that really stood out to you, a few positive and negative, if you can find some of each, and highlight the main points that stuck out to you. add quotes to illustrate.

If I remember right - Alan and Michelle just did a review on that. You might want to see their review to give you some ideas. I liked the way they wrote their review even though its not my style of book.

it just depends! you could have the most amazing review ever and nobody ever reads it and thinks 'i'll put this in the rumble.'

some people dont know about the rumble, and some dont do nominations.

it's just a stroke of luck, plus good reviews. dont worry! the more you participate around here, the more ppl will start following you, and eventually someone who noms reviews alot (beck?!) will pick you up.

it's like being selected to be a rockstar. it's alot of luck and a bit of talent.

in which case, it's best to modify the actual review.

I really like to see a "this is what I was expecting from the book," and then "it did/did not live up to my expectations" at the end.

Also, if it's non-fiction, talk about the author's tone, and who the intended audience is. I like scientific books, and I want to avoid books that are written to teenagers, for example.

If it's erotica, maybe share a few excerpts from your favorite stories. Also include what the orientation of the couplings is, so people can choose things they'll enjoy most.

For instructional/informat ional books, I like when the reviewer gives a brief summary of each chapter (Chapter 1 covers the different types of llamas, with handy info such as each breed of llama's favorite Harry Potter movie.)

For erotica, an idea of the ratio of straight/gay/bi stories can be helpful, as well as an idea of how kinky things get, and any certain fetishes it may appeal to.

How do you get people to actually look at your reviews. I have a couple that have been up for a few weeks and only 1 or 2 people have looked at it.I need more feedback.

I just think that really depends on the people reading it. Some do not even nominate people and others already nominated everyone they could.

For me what makes the difference is how it is written and if it feels like the person took the time to write an awesome review. I see plenty of other reviews that are nomination, but I make the best three picks I can and hope someone else gives props to the others.

There is a thread called rank the review above and post yours or something. It gets at least one person to look at yours, and you vote on someone elses so its kind of a nice cycle.
