#Workshop - March 12th @ 7pm: Women’s Health

Contributor: darthkitt3n darthkitt3n
Being healthy is something that takes a bit of work. While some of us may not realize it, taking a few steps towards healthy living on your own can definitely help you out in the future. Some of these steps may only take a few minutes a day.

The first item I will discuss is proper bra fitting. It is estimated that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra, which leads to back pain and sagginess in the future. Just switching to wearing the right bra size will change your body’s appearance by getting rid of back bulges and more naturally supporting breasts. I will also demonstrate how to properly fit a bra using a tailor’s tape measure.

Second, I will discuss how to properly check breasts for lumps. Checking for lumps every day can help you to catch any sort of tumors before they really have a chance to do much damage.

Third, I will discuss different products and the affects they have around the vagina. Some of the ingredients in different products may cause women to have a yeast infection. Knowing what may be harmful will help you to use safe products or make better choices during the heat of the moment.

Join me on Saturday, March 12th at 7pm EST to learn and ask questions!

Embarrassingly enough, I actually just recently figured out how to measure correctly for that.

This sounds like it's going to be full of some great information. Looking forward to joining this.

This sounds pretty awesome. I can never be sure if my bras fit correctly (even though I get 'fitted' about once a year!)

When you are doing breast exams, you need to know that you should also check your abdomen at the same time for lumps. Someone I know was told to do this by her Dr. and he has actually found several cancers on patients, as well as on her! So also check abdomen!

Another addition, Men also need HPV vaccine. HPV has been linked to prostate cancer for years and nothing was ever said about it. I got diagnosed with it and did some research as several years before hubby had prostate cancer. They are only now coming out and recommending it.

I wont be there tonight but wanted to get this info in to you!

I'm not sure I really have any questions right off the bat.

How are you doing?

Working nights right? What's your bedtime normally? I have a few friends who work the night shifts sometimes and they vary their bedtimes a lot.

It depends on how I feel after work. Sometimes I will go to bed around 10 am, sometimes not until 2 am. I usually only stay up later when I'm not working the next night.

Alright, question. Am I correct in that there are 3 seperate measurements that need to be taken in order to arrive at your proper bra size? And then there is some sort of math involved?

There is actually just two measurements that need to be taken, at the bust and under the bust. Then the under the bust measurement must be subtracted from the measurement you got at the bust.

Properly fitting yourself for a bra is pretty easy. All you need is a bra that is lightly lined and fits comfortably and a tailor’s tape measure, like this:

Tape measures can be found at any craft store or in retail stores that carry crafting supplies, like Walmart.

First, you need to take off your shirt so you can get the best measurements possible. Because I am just demonstrating, I am leaving my shirt on. You would then wrap the tape measure around where the band should lay, which is the same height all the way around under the bust. If your bra’s band rises up in the back, the straps may need to be adjusted, or you may be wearing the wrong size. Don’t wrap the tape measure too tightly, just so that it is comfortable. Take note of the inches.

There are two ways that your band measurement can be used. Sometimes it is recommended to take the number you get and add 2-3 inches, sometimes it is recommended to just leave it as it is. I would personally add some inches, and then try on a bra with that band size to see if it is comfortable. Differences in bra brands, too, may affect this number. In my case, I measure 32 inches around, though I find that a size 32 band is a bit too tight, so I go up to 34. You would always add inches to round up to the next even number. So, if you measure 33 inches, you would go either to 34 or 36.
