Congratulations to Dawn (Lilac Distraction) for hitting 200 reviews! Wow, that's a lot of toys and hard work!! Let's give her a big round of applause and learn more about her as a reviewer!
Dawn was kind enough to write about her experiences for us, so feel free to ask her any questions!
When I started reviewing, I was happy to have just about anything. My lack of experience and curiosity gave me a "try anything" mentality. I had moderate standards. I wasn't down with realistic looking things or anything made of jelly, but that was pretty much it.
As I gained more knowledge and experience my tastes became more refined. I started to shift towards things made of silicone, glass, and metal. I was concerned with both form and function equally. Everything was beginning to be held to higher standards. I wasn't just a sex toy enthusiast. I had become a collector (and a bit of a hoarder). I had to have at least one of every type of thing here.
It was right after my last milestone of 100 reviews (which I completed in a mere 4 months) that my focused changed. I was much more interested in quality instead of quantity. I started to work my way up to the highest rated luxury toys, The Tentacle, Pure Wand, Eroscillator, Mimi, Jopen Vr3 (which was my 100 milestone assignment). I wanted the best BDSM stuff we had to offer: Aslan Leather, Spartacus, Kinklab. I also became much more confident when it comes to lingerie because I was finally finding things that fit me and was incredibly surprised and excited about that.
At 200 I've reached a rather strange point where I feel like I'm a "toy snob". I'm completely happy with the toys I do have and really don't feel like there's much out there I still want (it's a little sad to realize that sometimes). I rarely review them anymore (11 of the last 70). Because of this, my focus lately has shifted more towards BDSM gear, lingerie (chemises, apparently), bath and body products, and books.
I've realized that I should probably start branching out again. I'm going to try to lower the bar and grab things I've been interested in, but never really that excited about. I've been incredibly impressed with a few things (The Club Vibe and Swell Wand) that I've decided to go for lately. I'm excited to have another fresh milestone to pursue, as well! To 300!
