Sorry I don't mean to derail the convo but my neighbor sounds like she is wigging the hell out upstairs. Doors are slamming, lots of running from room to room...

LOL Good way to get rid of a Char who annoys you....I have a story start I have been working on maybe I'll use it as a graphic example of mapping. The idea is breathtaking in it's possible complexities which is why I haven't done much with it. I can go young adult or completely adult...sci-fi or erotic fiction or even time travel.

Here tell me what you think:
"Dragons are, by nature, quiet creatures content to sit and watch the changing patterns in the ripples of a small lake for days. 'There are patterns in the ripples,' they are fond of saying but they are equally quick to admit they have no idea what those patterns mean. They are fond of cool evenings and brisk mornings, they love to rest at noon in a sunny spot and think thoughts they are sure have never been thought before. Possessed of a lifespan the likes of which mountains and trees own, dragons have ample time to learn the secrets of the elements and practice their alchemy. Secrets are stock in trade for dragons and the curious seeker would do well to remember this. There is no secret too small or mundane to a dragon, they are meddlesome in the extreme.
Your average dragon lives it's life somewhere between here and there, with most of it's bulk in the nether realm. Dragons are shape shifters and have honed their skills to the utmost." The old man paused his history lesson as he slowly turned the small severed head in his hands. Finally he sighed and laid the bloody thing down on his work bench before turning and fixing the mail clad night with his keen and sharp gaze. "You'll want this bronzed or stuffed for mounting, I expect. Well, it'll cost you. The King is mighty fond of his pet dragons and doesn't look to kindly on the old head mounting traditions." The knight made an impatient gesture and the old artisan, being no fool, hastily took up his slide rule and began to haggle.
The knight sighed at the price quoted but paid the artisan with only the barest discourtesy. He moved with a soft tinkling of chain mail as he left the shop and the old artisan shook his head at the folly of youth. He looked at the small gathering of children there for their daily lessons and decided to continue with dragon lore. "Our King befriended several dragons in his youth and has continued to champion the cause of understanding between man and dragon through the years....."
The knight smiled inside his helmet as the voice faded from his keen hearing. 'Friend of dragons,' indeed. The old fool was canny but even he was unaware that the 'meddlesome' dragon had been ruling this kingdom for generations!
That's all I had time to write down before the inspiration sort of drifted away...came to me from a dream and is so totally not what I usually write!

My friend was telling me once about a dream she had where she was driving along a cliff side road and there were big waves. I said, "Have you watched Ponyo recently, by any chance?" She said, "Actually, it was the road from Ponyo." It's amazing what we pick up.

Right so we need to choose some topics for next month. We have poetry, and the open topic. What should we do for the guided topic? Should I do a story start again, or would you like to handle this one S&P?
