I love beautiful nude photography. Of course, it can be bad, too, and I hate the porn shots of, for instance, women with their labias spread wide open just for the sake of turning on some guy cruising the Internet. But tastefully done, beautiful nude photography is awesome.

Well... I find it beautiful no matter what but I am a little twisted and like looking at my pussy with a creampie in/on it. That said I agree a lot of folks will decide yes or no based on how its taken. I know from personal experience my local retail drug store with photo lab has no issues developing and printing my nude stuff including the ones I had made poster size. The do have issue however with the on all fours doggy style with me holding a finger between my lips with the tip inside and fully visible. I still don't get why the 20 something year old who works there is always flirty... hummmm.

It really depends on intentions of the photographer, and there's no solid line. People looking can also choose how they view something. So I guess I think it's a bit of both and everything.

I recommend taking an art appreciation class at your local community college, or you could also go to a museum.

Nudity has been in art since the dawn of time. For example, the Sistine Chapel would be charged as a home of pornography, because the ceiling and the walls are chock full of nudity. And, I'm sure most of you know, that's a sacred place for Catholics.

I'd also like to state that porn, when done right, can qualify as art. Just because people are having sex doesn't detract from the artistic nature of the piece. I feel like because porn is equivalent to smut in our culture, its artistic quality is detracted or ignored.

I work with an old man who used to be a very serious photographer. He likes to show his old portfolios and collections when people ask about his pictures. He always warns them that the photos are mostly nudes and people usually roll their eyes and think something like "dirty old man" until they see his work. This man worked under Ansel Adams for several years and his nudes are some of the most incredible and beautiful photos I have ever seen. It's all in how the subject is portrayed.

The line between porn and art is usually pretty hotly debated, but I totally agree with Ms Spice that porn can sometimes qualify as art, and nude photography can definitely qualify as art on its own if it is done well.

Other because I don't think the two are necessarily mutual exclusive.

It depends on the style, the posing, the photographer's intent through lens/exposure, all sorts of things. Some pictures are definitely more art than porn, others more porn than art, and some are just completely blurred and will fit into both descriptions.

I agree with several other community members, porn can be art, and art can be tasteless porn. Look at some of the self art of hollywood, it is just ego masturbation at it's most public. The beauty is in the emotion the art elicits. Not the screaming "look at me" but the subtle elegance even in the most explicit. There was a series I am still looking for in black and white of nude contortionists doing all kinds of fun stuff, and it was stunning!

I think it also depends on the model.

I myself have a very conflicted views on this topic.

Since I'm Jewish I have a very modest view on life and especially when it come to how women are to act, dress, ect. I feel that a wife's beauty is only for her husband.

That being said, I really think nude photography can defiantly be works of art but unfortunately most seen on the internet today is pornographic in nature.

So what classifies art? In my mind it would be a combination of the setting of the photo ( how props in the photo are laid out ect.), the use of clothes or other props to cover parts of the body, the pose, the feel of the photo ( such as the model seeming to innocent not sleazy in nature. ), the photographers intent, and so much more.

My dad once said I can't tell you what art vs pron is but I know it when I see it.

Depends entirely upon how it is done, but generally I would say art.

I definitely think it can go either way depending on a few factors. I can't really give you a cut and dry "this makes it art, and this makes it porn," but I know it when I see it.

Pornography is mostly the intention of the photographer and the perspective of the viewer. It's a fairly complex interaction. I don't find most nude art offensive - however child porn is just that. I am also repulsed by those who try to demean religion or other social groups with their so-called art.

At times, it is hard to tell. But, art is... artful. A woman with her fingers penetrating up to the third digit is usually porn, the same woman in a demur position without genitalia showing may be art.

If it's black and white it's probably art.

I consider any photograph of a nude to be considered art. Whether or not it's beautiful is a personal interpretation.

depends really. im on a art site that allows people to put such pictures, and really, ive seen both. nude photography can be beautiful when taken CORRECTLY, not just a girl striking a pose making sure her breasts are in the picture, or a guy making sure the length of his dick is being known.

The human body is art and even more so with a gifted photographer. Unless there is sexual activity its not porn.

It's a very subjective question. There are times when nude photos are very clearly smutty and pornographic, and times when they're clearly artistic, but more often than not they fall into a middle ground where it's open to interpretation. Sometimes you'll find that the same photo can send vastly different messages, just by changing it from colour to black and white, or by altering the cropping slightly.

What I might consider an art book suitable for a coffee table, others might be mortified at the sight of.
