Hello Everybody!
This has been an amazing year for the EdenFantasys community, and we are so proud of you all for making EdenGivesBack such a success. Your efforts have not only reached those in need of help, but also those in need of love and appreciation.
In the fall of 2010, the community raised over $2,300 to what was then called Community Gives Back. Along with the donations, community members volunteered their time & effort to bring Thanksgiving and Christmas to a total of 6 families who wouldn't have been able to celebrate otherwise.
The beginning of 2011 marked the start of Eden Clubs & community events, and after the success of the holiday campaign we decided to expand our efforts and started EdenGivesBack. EdenGivesBack is a community run micro-organization, open to all. Meetings are held on the community forum, where ideas and suggestions for new campaigns are discussed and decided. You can often find details and results of each project, along with photos from contributors, on the Eden Gives Back blog.
Now, as we close the book on our first full year of EdenGivesBack, it would be great if we could all take a moment to appreciate what we have accomplished together through EdenGivesBack, and hopefully it will inspire us to do even more in the coming year.
Run, Taco, Run! - TacoODoom contacted us about sponsoring her to run in a 9k marathon, to raise funds for disabled veterans. In the New England area there are approximately 50,000 Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan who are affected by Traumatic Brain Injury and/or combat stress. Taco, along with the help of our community, was able to raise money for the Run to Home Base (in association with the Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital). The money donated was used to help create awareness and funding for research to help affected Veterans.
EdenGivesBack: Clothing Drive - Charity isn’t just about dollars and cents. The members of the EGB program decided to step up and donate clothing and other usable items to local charities. A number of our members made a huge difference for their local communities by going through their closets and basements and passing on things that they no longer use that other families need! This is an ongoing thing, and you can participate any time in the future if you want!
EdenGivesBack: Joplin, MO - When disaster struck, our amazing community stepped up to do their part. I’m sure you all remember the tornado that ripped through Joplin, Missouri in late May of 2011 and caused untold devastation. Even 6 weeks after the fateful storm, nearly one third of the people in the city of Joplin were still homeless, and living in tents at a local campground. With your help and donations, we were able to give to relief efforts to help people get back on their feet after losing everything they had. The people of Joplin are eternally grateful for the kind and generous donations you were able to give.
EdenGivesBack: Support our Troops - There is a special place in the hearts of EdenGivesBack for our troops, and as a community and company, we are thrilled that we could do our part to support our soldiers overseas. We raised funds to send magazine subscriptions to our troops in Iraq. With your help, we were able to get 21 full subscriptions, totaling 524 individual magazines! I hope that as we start 2012, we keep our soldiers in our thoughts, and do all we can to show them we care. A big thanks goes out to Stormy, who organized the subscriptions, and to Sexyintexas, who sent in her own care packages, and runs a similar charity within her own community. If you haven’t seen them already, go to read some of the touching thank you letters she received!
