It will fit into the box, it just takes some time to fold it up. Main problem is the metal part takes up a lot of room. Mine will fit in my under dresser of the bed but just barely.

In answer to the second question; I don't see any reason too. If you drill the hole about 1/4" less than the threads it will lock right in. Also, if you adjust the lock nuts on the eyelet where it mounts to the frame it will act like a swivel which will prevent that from happening.
