Do you buy your bread or do you make it? Ever since I got my bread maker, I make my own bread. Just wondering if anyone else does?

Hi! This is a really good question. as a baker, I'm always a huuuge advocate for homemade bread. Not only is it delicious, but also if you DON'T have a machine, the kneading process can be very stress-relieving. But I would feel like it was becoming a chore if I made my own bread all the time for home use, so I let it be a treat when I make it instead. My grandma on the other hand, still bakes almost all her own bread (at least the white bread, even if it's from frozen dough these days), and it's awesome.

I buy store bought, but I don't eat much bread.
05/08/2012
We buy for the most part but we do have a sweet lil'lady down the road that makes it and will bring us a loaf or two. That loaf does not last long!
05/08/2012
Homemade! I don't have a bread maker, so it's definitely an act of love, but I adore the ritual of making bread from scratch. Plus, it tastes so much better.
05/08/2012
Store bought for us. I don't have the patience to make bread, and we don't eat a lot of bread.
05/08/2012
I make it when I can, but it's so much work. We have an artisan bread shop near us, so it's usually easier just to go there.
05/08/2012
We have a bread machine, but honestly, I rarely use it. I should remedy that!
05/08/2012
Making bread is something that's beyond me to be honest so I just buy it from the store.
05/08/2012
I usually buy it from the store. Homemade is awesome though!
05/08/2012
I loooove homemade bread! I really want a bread maker!
05/08/2012
I buy mines. But if I had a bread maker I would make it I used to do it long time ago. So fresh and yummy.

Little bit of both. There are some great bakeries in our area, so we only make bread that we can't get there.
05/08/2012
perfer home made but never have time to make
05/08/2012
Love homemade if someone else makes it.
05/08/2012
Only home made.
05/08/2012
I love buying my bread from a local bakery who sells at a weekly farmers market. Fresh, cheap and delish!

I buy mine but I love when my grandmother makes me some homemade
05/09/2012
I buy mine, but I love homemade bread, when I have e time to make it.
05/09/2012
we only eat bread maybe once or twice a week. So I dont spend the time to make homemade bread.
05/10/2012
I make a loaf of homemade every couple of days. I don't even use a bread maker anymore.
05/10/2012
We buy bread from the store, but I definitely prefer home made.
05/11/2012
I buy it but wish I baked, homemade is so much better!
05/11/2012
I buy it, but prefer homemade.
05/11/2012
I buy it, but LOVE homemade. There's a bread factory in my town and every time I drive down the street that it's on, I practically drool out the window.
05/17/2012
I like both.
05/18/2012
We buy it but I like both.
05/18/2012
Both! I prefer to have homemade bread only once in a while, though; that way it's more... special
05/18/2012
Store bought.
05/18/2012
I hope to be able to make my own bread soon.

We'll buy bread to have on hand for things, but usually make homemade using the "five minute a day" artisan bread recipe. It's so very simple to just mix things up, let rise, and throw into the fridge for up to two weeks. We always have dough ready to go for whatever we want.
06/12/2012
We eat store brought bread, although I'd love to learn how to make my own.
06/26/2012
I buy it but I would love to make it!

We generally buy bread from a store. Sometimes we buy it from a Mennonite family and it is much better. Hard to beat anything homemade!!

I generally make my own. Like to think it is more healthy by stuffing it with flax seeds and Scottish oats.
06/28/2012
Store bought. Only because homemade seems complicated...I could be wrong xD!
07/07/2012
Wonder Bread for me.
07/07/2012
I make my own. I don't have a bread maker (don't want one), so it's old fashioned oven baking for me! I generally do a mix of white whole wheat and bread flours. Baking is done, by necessity, about once a week (not including when I do pizza dough). The kiddles don't even like store bread any more.
If I'm feeling particularly lazy I make "1-Hour sandwich bread."

The store bought varieties can be much healthier than what we make at home. The multi-grain breads are the best.
07/07/2012
I picked other, as I don't bake myself, but buy non-commercial either homemade or small bakery made. I love my local Good Harvest bakery as well. I can't stand commercial grocery store bread.
07/07/2012
I buy store bought bread but I love homemade bread! It smells soo good!
07/10/2012
I love making it but I've got a temperamental bread machine. I sometimes make it all by hand and bake it in the oven but can't always find the time.
07/21/2012
I go back and forth. I make bread a few times a month.
07/21/2012
we buy bread from the store but prefer home made bread.
07/21/2012
It just depends on our mood for the day. Normally we'll use store bough, and other days we bake some in our machine.

Actually, it's not too bad once you get the hang of it. After a few times you get so much better. If you are interested you can look up "One hour sandwhich bread" and "Farmgirl Fare Farmhouse Loaf." Both are great beginner breads. The one hour one is easier, the farmhouse loaf is better tasting.

I love making bread, but without a bread maker I usually make special occasion breads, like pumpkin bread, banana bread, etc. For sandwich bread we have to purchase from the store. Hoping to get a bread maker soon (maybe for Christmas?!), so that I can start making all of our bread!

Homemade. It's so much cheaper for basic white or wheat bread, I can control what goes into my bread, and I love baking.
08/17/2012
I but it from the store but I have thought about getting a bread maker.
08/17/2012
I like both.
08/17/2012
I like bread from Panera. I don't have the patience to make homemade bread.
08/17/2012
For sandwich bread, I buy it. I like to make my own bread, but I've yet to figure out how to make a good loaf of 100 percent whole wheat bread. Or even just white bread, for that matter.

Have you tried using white whole wheat flour? It rises a bit better than regular whole wheat. King Arthur makes some. You can also add some dry ground ginger root in with it and leave the dough wetter than you normally would.

I have. I need to understand how to actually make a loaf of sandwich bread more, though. All my baking... I've taught myself. I don't know anyone who's baked their own loaf of sandwich bread. So every time I've tried making it so far, I've wound up with a huge loaf that takes over my whole loaf pan in the oven and is verging on a burnt mess before it's finished baking in the centre. So.. lots of work. But I like baking, so I can do it. :]

But thank you very much for your advice, I do appreciate it. <3

I'm going to point you in this direction: Farmhouse White. It is the first yeast loaf bread I learned how to make and she really takes you step by step through the whole process. I highly recommend it.

For the whole wheat version, you can go ahead and sub all the flour for white whole wheat, but the loaves will be denser. I like to do a half wheat/half white.
Good luck!

Store bought bread (unless from a bakery) is just too soft.
10/16/2012
homemade if i have time, it tastes better
10/16/2012
sigh, I used to make homemade bread all the time!
Unfortunately my house is now gluten free, and gluten free bread is a pain to make (and isn't good enough to justify the work).
/end pity party

Homemade bread is a special treat upon occasion. Normally I just buy bread at the store.
11/26/2012
I've never had homemade.. sooo i'd have to say store bought... even though i don't eat bread much.
11/26/2012
store bought as well...
11/26/2012
I ping-pong between store bought and home made.
11/26/2012
Every Friday night.

I buy my bread, but my brother bakes some homemade every once and a while and it is absolutely delicious
11/26/2012
Neither. I don't eat bread. Hubby does, and buys it at the store.
11/26/2012
Homemade bread is delicious. So much better than store bought.
11/26/2012
I buy my bread for everyday use. I do make breads but they are normally not breads you use for sandwiches.
12/25/2012
I've been buying store bread but I love making my own bread. Hopefully I can get a breadmaker soon and start making my own bread.
01/13/2013
We get store bought bread, but if making homemade was a bit easier I would do that much more often because it tastes so much better.
01/13/2013
I'd rather buy a ready sliced loaf, though I would enjoy the smell of freshly baked bread in my house.
01/13/2013
I think homemade bread tastes better, but I haven't had any in a long time.

01/18/2013
I used to home bake and cook everything. Now I barely eat.
01/18/2013
I pretty much always get bread from the store, but I've made my own bread before and I LOVE it, it's so much better and it smells so amazing when it's baking.

I usually buy the whole grain bread they sell pre-sliced at the store, but I love the smell of freshly baked bread. I always eat too much of it when I bake my own, so I try not to do that.
02/06/2013
I make some occasionally, so usually store bought.
02/06/2013
I've never made my own bread, so I wouldn't know.
I guess by default I like store bought more.
Oh wait, I think I tried to make banana bread once and forgot the milk :/

I prefer to make my own bread, and usually do, until we run out of yeast and then I have to resort to store bought until we can get more yeast. Where we live yeast is banned, as are all things that could be used to make alcohol or could be drunk as it contains alcohol.
They seem to ignore the fact that sugar and pineapple juice is one way to make an alcohol that could be more dangerous than regulated alcohol.
