Insulin Resistance/Syndrome X/Metabolic Syndrome

Contributor: lexical lexical
These are all various names for the same condition, related to the metabolism and the body's processing of carbohydrates in particular.

I've read that up to 25% of the population of the US has it.
I'm just curious if anyone else here does. I'm recently diagnosed and dealing with it (along with my weight and body image issues) and I'm just looking to commiserate with other people who have it!

I think I might have the opposite problem... Diabetes runs in my family, but before most of my family members are diagnosed with diabetes, they are first diagnosed with hypoglycemia. The pancreas over-produces insulin, and/or the body's cells overuse what insulin is available to them, and it causes low blood sugar. That is what I think is wrong with me. Eating three meals at the times "normal" people do is not enough for me, I need sometimes up to eight small meals a day. My blood sugar drops dramatically, often for no apparent reason, and I get grouchy, dizzy, and confused. And it makes it hard to lose weight when I have to constantly be putting sugar into my body >_<

I also suffer from hypoglycemia. Entertainingly enough, I'm also insulin resistant!

I gained a bunch of weight a few years ago, and it's been such a huge problem losing weight. I've been having some success losing weight (10 lbs down!), but it's been a juggling game keeping enough carbs in me to keep me from getting cranky but few enough to keep the weight gain and insulin resistance at bay.
