I've found that depending on what I'm making and how I'm making it (crocheting or knitting) different brands of yarn will make a big difference in the project. I'm not talking about the weight of the yarn but who makes it. How many of you have had this experience? What brand of yarn do you prefer to use when crocheting or knitting?
Different types and brands of yarn.

I've only tried Caron, Craft Smart, and Red Heart brands. I love the Red Heart Soft, and the others are rougher, but they're okay for making amigurumi. I want to try other soft brands in the future, but only for projects where softness is imperative.

For my current project I'm using red heart super saver. I love Lion Brand's homespun yarns for hats and fingerless gloves.. It just depends on the project, you know? I am dying to make some Amigurumi projects for my kids and my nephews and neices. I think those would make nice gifts for the kids

Definitely notice that! The only yarn I can get is at the local Wal-Mart, so I'm stuck with the Red Heart and Caron and such... but you can definitely tell the differnce in that the Red Heart is thicker and scratchier and the Caron, even though it's considered the same weight, so much thinner and silkier.

it's the texture for me that I look for, not necessarily the brand.

I have better luck with Lion Brand, especially Vanna's Choice and the Tweed Stripes varieties.

I know what you mean! It's truly amazing the difference in quality! I love using the Caron Simply Soft. The Red Heart is great if you're making something large because it's less expensive, but it's not nearly as soft.

I love Vanna's Choice, Caron Simply Soft & Caron One Pound. I also love all yarn from Knit Picks. There are also other brands that I enjoy using. I also love Red Heart Super Saver.
