I recently received a forwarded email from my Grandma with a recipe for a personal-size chocolate cake...that you make in a coffee mug...in the microwave! If anyone has seen this already I apologize, I'm not trying to pass off the recipe or idea as my own, I have no idea where it originated or how long it's been circulating on the internet, I just wanted to share it. Plus, I thought this would be a cute Holiday gift basket idea (this is what all my sex shop bitches at work are getting this year and they'll love it!)
First I'll post the recipe, then my idea to make it a gift basket.
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
Gift Basket idea:
Since the dry ingredients all get mixed together first anyway, why not go ahead and measure them out, mix them together, and put them in a little ziploc or something? Obviously the milk and egg cannot be included because they need to be refrigerated, but you could also buy tiny plastic bottles with screw-on caps and measure out the oil and vanilla extract too (but I would say to leave them separated, since the recipe doesn't say to add them at the same time), and the chocolate chips in a bag so they have the choice. Obviously include a coffee mug and the recipe printed out all cute. What I will do is experiment with the recipe in case someone I give it too cannot have milk or eggs do to allergies or health conditions, to see if the substitutes require the same amounts. Also, I thought it would be cute to include a couple of tips and ideas at the end. Like, cut it in half and top with a scoop of ice cream. Or, use only half the chocolate chips in the recipe and melt the other half to drizzle on top afterward (especially if you use ice cream!) What does everyone think? I'm not only sharing the idea with you, but also looking for suggestions you may have to make my gift baskets better and cuter!
