haven't tried the photo thing yet, but I expect to, it sounds like it'll make pictures a lot easier. still not sure about the time thing, it seems like one week ago was more useful than 1/12/12, but I'm still getting used to it. it's too early to make a decision.

Well, I think it would be really easy to combine them. I have thoughts on this, let me start fresh:

Has anyone tried the picture upload feature yet? Does the formatting work well for reviews?

And if so, Sam, do you know if there is any way to upload pictures from old reviews so I don't have to worry about them getting deleted in the future?

Ok. So I had gotten in the habit of uploading my photos to the product page as soon as I take them, because a lot of times I'm just doing a bulk photo shoot and will get to the reviews later. So for

this guy

I had already uploaded a picture to the product page when I wrote the review.

When I went to upload the picture to the review, the upload widget asked me "did you want to just use this one that you already uploaded to the product page?"

So it would be easy to incorporate both by saying ... you can do it this way, *or* you can just upload it to the product page and include it with a single click to your review!

But, I still have more thoughts:

Evening all. I haven't tried the photo upload but plan to do so soon.

I've seen a few of the reviews that have utilized the new feature, and it seems to work fairly well. The images are centered and only have one per row, as opposed to being able to have multiple images across the screen, but if you're only uploading one or two images, it's not a big deal.

As for uploading picture from old reviews, I don't think there's a way to do it unless you can still edit the review yourself.

So then, my other thing: currently, the upload widget forces your picture to be some variety of rectangle. So on the product page for the one I just posted (link), if you click the photo I added, I had to have a bunch of white space above and below the image or else I would have had to crop a bunch of content out.

This "it's gotta be a thick rectangle" thing is the same in reviews. So I wound up just using imgur again.

If you guys want to download one of my thin-rectangle pictures and try to play with them yourself (to see how you can't do it without the white space) I've got some here:
link

I had brought this up when the photo uploader was first introduced but I think it got overlooked and then I forgot.

I would like to know too. For instance, can we put two pictures next to each other easily? Normally I have to use google.sh to shorten the link to get them side by side.

That I actually didn't know would happen, but it's still really neat to learn. I will have to include that as well.

If you upload it to a product page first, is the formatting the same? Because I could do that to "back up" all of my review pictures.

It's actually the size of the image and not the length of the link that determines whether they get posted next to each other or not. I mean, you can separate them out no matter the length, but if there's not enough room for both images to stack next to each other, the second one just reverts to the next line.

Ugh. Maybe I'll just stick with Photobucket...

What do you mean by formatting? I've been doing backups as I've been able to (slowly, but occasionally)

It is the same as uploading from the review I believe, where you'll have to crop it possibly. It's probably not a bad idea if the product pages in question have that ability, and then should one of your images get deleted from where you had been hosting it you could contact admin and ask them to update it with a link from the product page.

I was wondering if the new feature was any different because I had heard that uploading from the product pages was causing issues with the format, i.e. there is a lot of white space. You answered my question above. I don't think I will be using the feature at this time because I'm picky.

huh, I always use the same size pic. But if I use the normal link from Flickr I cannot put two pics on the same line, I had thought it was due to the link. Whereas if I use the shortened link I can get up to three pics on one line.

Yeah, I don't mind it on the product page because that's just extra info, the way I see it, but I'll keep on using imgur for my in-review shots until we can customize the lxw ratios.

When using the full URL, are you hitting the Return key between pictures? If not, I'm not sure why there would be a difference as to how the pictures appear in the review.

The code will physically not fit on a line, but if the images are the proper size they'll be fine. Like in my lingerie reviews where you'll see a front/back next to each other, those are two separate images that if you looked at the formatting as I was writing it show up on two separate lines.

Yeah, if you hit space instead of return then there's only a space between images instead of a return line.

When I want two or more pictures side by side, I use a feature in my editing software that joins them as one picture and then I size it to fit.

I am not that tech savvy.

That's a good idea as well. I just figured out that the one size that Imageshack lets me upload at worked perfectly for portrait aligned images to sit next to each other, so that's how I've been doing it.

Nope. I even tried it by not putting a space in between the formatting. It could be, pretty sure anyways, the length of the link from Flickr.
