Personally and you alredy know this i think you should start with a lighter materialed flogger/whip and a light paddle both feel diffrent when used and you might not like the sensation of one and like the sentation on the other then when you find out your prefrence go up in increments of heavyness

impresson paddle for paddle

sensua suede whip for the whip/flogger
to start with anyway

It's really up to you what feeling you want. My wife and I will be starting out with a whip before moving to a paddle. It just looks like the way it should progress.

A whip can be used lighter and with more sensation. You can drag it across their body. You can tease more with it. A paddle is more a one not toy. You hit someone with it.

A whip can be used on breasts, on genitals, really anywhere. A paddle is typically only used on your bum.

So it depends what you want. But I think a whip might be better to start off with. Something made of suede would be best.

First and foremost, figure out whether you prefer thud, sting, or a healthy mix of both. If you find you like thud, go for a heavier paddle or a heavy flogger (moose or elk are particularly good for that heavy thud). If sting is more your thing, one of those thin tassel whips might be a good place to start; you can always work up to something more intense later if you want. If you're a fan of thud and sting, medium-weight floggers can provide a nice mixture or you can just buy a couple of separate toys: one for thud and one for sting.

The Lelo suede whip is specifically made for beginners. Other than that, it's up to personal tastes, as others have said

This is your call. It all depends on what you like, but start light and go up.

I would go with the Sensua Suede flogger.
