I wear a steel collar, it is locked on, and only comes off for medical proceedures (like xrays), or at the airport. I started off with a nylon kitty collar from Pet Co, and then transitioned to a red leather collar from (again) Pet Co, and when I got married my husband gave me a steel collar. I love it.

I have tried on some nice leather collars, but I admit there is an actual dog collar made out of really soft recycled soy fiber that I would kind of like to get. I'm a hippie, I like my cheap, vegan options when I can get them.

For functionality - leather or faux leather. I wouldn't wear my "play" collar out in public though, as I live in an very conservative area.
