Do you feel like "dressing up" is essential to BDSM play, not needed, or just for fun? Do you have a certain outfit you wear when you do a scene (and what does it look like), or is whatever you have on good enough for you? Does dressing up help you get into the right headspace? In general, what is your view on the media's opinion of how someone who's into BDSM is "supposed to look"? And what is your opinion on specific outfits in a BDSM context?

Basically, tell me any opinions you may hold on dressing up to play, if you do or don't, what you wear, and how you feel about how the media portrays kinky folk.

My wife and I don't play that often, and we are quite vanilla, but I like to see her wearing some kind of lingerie when we do pull out our cuffs, paddles and floggers. It is like a different facial expression, it will change how you take the play session.

If I could choose one outfit my wife would wear that we don't have, I would like it to be a leather bustier, shorts, and over the knee boots. One outfit that we do have, a crotchless body stocking and her black vinyl corset.

We don't play often either and are pretty vanilla as well, but I do like dressing up in some sexy leather if I want.

For me, it's a bit of a mixed bag. I don't find it necessary to be in skin-tight vinyl for a scene, and I don't expect or really desire for my partner to dress a certain way. But on the other side of it, there are things that help put me in the correct headspace- the feel of cuffs on my wrists, even if they're not connected, etc.

As for media attention, I do think that there's too much focus on BDSM -having- to have certain accouterments.

I think dressing up can be fun. Usually I just get naked, and he ties me up. But there have been times that I'm in lingerie too. Just depends on the mood, really.
