Do ball gags muffle sound well & which one should I get?

Contributor: Sera26 Sera26
I am currently in a situation where I do not live alone. When my boyfriend is visiting he has a tendency to get very loud at times. We are into some BDSM stuff. I was thinking that I could incorporate a ball gag to try to muffle the sound. (Obviously I will ask him first).

However I was wondering, how well do they really work? Plus which would you get for a beginner? I like the one with the holes, it seems less scary, but it also seems counterproductive for keeping down sound.

Thanks.

Do you recommend they have a cord or do you not think it matters? Part of me is afraid to go ahead and get the ones without a cord.

They make speech incomprehensible, but don't provide much reduction in the volume of sound (at least not for me! I'm still able to produce very audible moans). I've never tried one with holes - supposedly they are safer, because if you have a blocked nose you can still breathe through your mouth. Pick silicone over rubber, as it's tasteless and more hygienic. I'd recommend something with a diameter of 1.5" to start with.

LOL. I don't know how you plan on breaking that one to him, but best of luck. I probably wouldn't come straight out and say "hey, I'm trying to get you to shut up." LOL. I wish I could be of more help though, but I don't use gags. I did not like my experience with it, just didn't feel sexy or right to me. But I'm pretty positive you can't do much noise-making with them in.

I've found that gags don't completely made sounds stop, but they do muffle words (it's hard to talk with your mouth full! ), and can make things slightly quieter. For me, having something to bite on makes me want to make less noise, so it does keep me quieter. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

I agree with what others have said. You won't be able to speak, but the volume can still get high. However, I find that having a gag in can be a reminder to be more quiet. If I don't have one, I have a really hard time not making noise. If we have guests, we always use the gag to remind me to hush.

As for which one, the Aslan Silicone Gag is my personal favorite. I have it in both colors.

They serve as a good reminder to be quiet, and you can bite down into them instead of crying out. This does a pretty good job if you keep it tight.
