Looking to get a strap on

Contributor: Akira Akira
I'm sort of curious about getting a strap on. But I have no idea where I should start. So if anyone could give me some suggestions it would be much appreciated.

i am very turned on by gay men...anyone else?

For the guys - Do you prefer a realistic dildo or non realistic dildo while getting pegged?

are you looking for a harness or a dildo, or both?

For a harness I would go with leather, they seem to last and are natural. There are some good ones out there. We have the pretty boi, it has held up nice and is a sexy peice. If you are looking for a strap-less dildo, the feeldoe line are high quality.

Also, are you thinking about using this for pegging (female to male anal sex with a strap on) or for an encounter with your female-bodied lover?

Are you fluid bound to your partner? If so, you could get leather, as recommended. Some of them come with a nice large hip measurement if you need it. I'm drooling over the Minx in red right now. If you're not fluid bound to you partner I would recommend one made of fabric that you can wash in the washing machine. I have one by Sportsheets that is "okay."

For pegging purposes, you might want to start with some of the slimmer dildos that are designed for pegging (Tantus has a line of dildos that are great for pegging). If you're looking to get a dildo for your female-bodied partner, you should have a talk about what kinds of dildos interest her.

Determine the style you would like, g-string style, binkini, jock strap style. There are pros & cons to each, then the material.
Read the reviews, both the positive & negative.
Determine what is important to you: do you want to get pleasure out of it from stimulation (placement of the dildo), vibration.
My girlfriend & I bought the Grrl Toyz harness as our 1st. It didn't' fit her well & she didn't have control of the dildo. The replacement that we love is the Spareparts Joque
Then the dildo of choice. Make sure it will fit in the O-Ring, do you want a natural look in a penis or not, 1st time or not? If 1st time don't get a large diameter, how big are you? the reason that is asked is for the length. as bigger gals would need a little longer dildo. Don't get 1 to long as my girlfriend tends to get carried away at times & thrusts it all in.
If you get a silicone dildo, use plenty of water based lube if it will be for anal penetration.
Good luck in your search.

Sorry that it has taken a while to respond. Yeah I'm curious about pegging, and yeah I need to look for both a harness and a dildo. But thank you for the info and the ideas everyone has been posting!

okay for a harness I recommend getting a double strap then tend to be more comfortable as for the dildo itself start off with something small and take the time to get use to it

#1 thing - buy decent quality toys. Cheap toys will just make things difficult. It's also best to get the dildo and harness separate so that you can get the best mix for you rather than being limited to what's stocked in a kit.

Harnesses: Go directly to O-ring harnesses. Do not mess with Vac-U-Lock or any similar system (they don't have very many good quality harnesses or toys). We like "jock" style harnesses because they tend to be a bit more stable. Good high-end harnesses: Outlaw Leather, Aslan Jaguar, SpareParts Jocque. Good mid-level harnesses: Sportsheets, Aslan Commando.

Dildos: For pegging it's best to start with a smooth finished dildo. I like a curve because it increases stimulation. For materials there's only one I advise: silicone. Silicone is soft so you don't run the risk of injury, it can be cleaned and sanitized for health and safety, and it works with many different lubes. The big thing is to not get one that's too small - a dildo that's too short can pop out during thrusting, and a dildo that's too thin can be floppy. I recommend a dildo with not less than 5-1/2" of insertable length and 1-1/4" in diameter or bigger, but don't let your eyes get too much bigger than your (or your partner's) bottom (and take time to get ready for the toy with other buttplay). Heads on the dildo are a matter of choice: they can increase prostate stimulation and they give a visual landmark that the dildo is almost all the way out, but they also can make it harder to insert (since the head is the biggest part of the dildo and it's right at the tip), and some people just don't like them.

If possible it's best for both partners to go harness/dildo shopping, because they both need to be comfortable with the toys. Some guys are a bit uncomfortable with a hyper-realistic dildo (especially on their first time), and some women can be uncomfortable with it as well - but for other couples it can be just the ticket. Likewise some people like sparkly super-hero harnesses, others like black leather, and some others like something different. Your experience will be best if you find something you both like and are comfy with.

Last thing - don't forget the lube!
