Begginer needs help with bondage.

Contributor: Bulma Bulma
Hi everyone! I am a new reviewer and just getting into BDSM. I'd like to try some fun bondage play with my husband. I have cuffs picked out, but am lost when it comes to tie downs. I have a sleigh bed, which I know will pose some problems. Are they some really good tie downs that any of you would reccomend? I'm just wondering if this is going to come down to a visit to the Home Depot to buy some chain or rope and hooks. I am thinking that I'll run something behind the headboard or under the mattress that I can fasten the cuffs to on each end. Any tips to help with this process? Really any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

okay- don't get me wrong, i'm a sucker for a beautiful pair of cuffs or a leather paddle, but i absolutely love Do-it-yourself BDSM. it's like a hobby.
if you can get something around the legs of the bed, that will be much sturdier than just under the mattress. if you don't want to buy a bunch of chain and rope, i recommend getting some (4) great dane-sized choke collars (or smaller depending on how long you need them) and some zip ties. zip ties are absurdly cheap and strong. only bad part is, once it's on, you have to cut it off (it's not going anywhere otherwise which is a plus) and they can't go on a person- but beds are a go.
the choke chains are pretty cheap and come in easy lengths with loops at the ends to attach cuffs. they're also not so bulky that anyone who stops in your room will see your torture chamber.

so run the zip tie through one end loop of the choke chain and then run the zip tie around the leg of the bed (if the leg is wide with your bed, they make huge zip ties) then attach your cuffs to the other end of the chain. and if you want more versatility than that, if you get a few hook clips from your hardware store and zip tie that on instead (they're like 20 cents each) you can then attach different length chains, rope, anything to each leg and unclip it for storage and to keep your room PG looking.
hope that made sense and helped! DIY BDSM is way too fun.

Wow! I would have never thought of using zip ties, thanks alot. I am definitely going to try that, and the hook clips sound great. My cousin has this odd habit of walking into my bedroom if she's looking for a nail clipper or something, and I wouldn't want her to have a heart attack when she saw my torture chamber of love. lol I also don't want my children to see, so that is perfect to be able to clip the chain on or off when needed. That was a lot of help!

I have a bed frame, a mattress and box spring. My answer; under the bed restraints. It's a cheap toy; you place it between your mattress and your box spring, and voila. If you want more length, different areas, etc, you can always add chain, zip ties, etc, and switch in your own cuffs. I esp. like it because it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't system," because it's all interconnected. If you pull one leg a little loose, the other one becomes tighter. I like

Good luck, and great advice Saurou!

DIY bondage is fun stuff, yes.

Saurou- I also appreciate zip ties for their varied uses. =)

If you do want to devise an under the bed type thing, just some decent rope should do it. I have to agree with Essin' Em on the benefits of that system- all points being attached really makes the bound aware of their position, and kind of adds a psychological layer to it.
Behind the headboard is not the best idea- I would stick to either securing things to legs, or under the mattress/box spring.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll try both under the bed and attatched to the bed legs to see what I like the best. I may end up using both depending on the mood I want to set. I can't wait to get everything set up and start playing!

I just wanted to say good luck and have fun with it! I love, love, love bondage and bdsm and well, all of it! *laughs* Be safe, but don't be afraid to explore and ask questions round here. Essin' Em said just what I was gonna say and the other suggestions are fantastic.

Thanks, I have only done really light play so far. But thanks to that discount, I ordered some new bdsm things that I can't wait to try out! I finally got to order the jaguar cuffs in white and black. I got them actually to match the fluffy flogger that I also ordered. I couldn't get my husband to agree to a leather cock and ball cage though. lol Maybe later I guess.

This community has been a really great resource.

Honestly, just start using common household objects. Get a good pair of safety shears, and then use rope for bondage. Clothespins can be used as clamps. Scarves can be used as blindfolds. You can give people a pretty good thwack with a wooden spoon (though my girlfriend's had experience with it, and doesn't recommend it!).

The best way to start is to talk to your partner, see what kind of things they're interested in or comfortable with exploring, and then go from there.

There are some good kits sold on the site too. I really like my whipper tickler because of its versatility and being able to be gentle or get a good sting out of it. Hands work great too! My husband didn't want to get into any s&m play, so to show him it didn't have to be scary we just started with some gentle spanking then ramped it up after he decided he really did like it The fluffy flogger is really sexy and a great toy too, but it is a little harder on the wallet.

I concur with this, I've had a great (and affordable) set of under-the-bed restraints for about 5 years, and love, love, LOVE them!

my Master and i live a Ds relationship 24/7 and bondage is one of our favourite things - personally i adore the feel of rope on my skin and Master seems to delight in making me squirm while tying ropes around me so we are both very happy - there are some great bondage items you can buy but somewhere like Home Depot is definitely a great place to get some really lovely rope - just be careful about the texture - some ropes can burn much more easily than others - whatever you decide to experiment with have fun and be aware of the safety aspects - having a good sharp pair of scissors handy is a wise idea particularly when you are starting out

i forgot to mention that bungee cords can be useful - particularly when you are starting out - they are the elasticated things with plastic covered hooks at each end you get in hardware stores

Bungee cords terrify me! We use them a lot (dirt bikes, wave runners, snow mobiles, etc.) I've smacked myself hard in the face more than once! I still have a little scar above my eyebrow from one! I'm a little clumsy I guess.
Glad they work very well for you though!

Our local pet shop has the aisle with the dog collars, but they also have a horse and tackle section. My partner and I enjoy BDSM very much, and snigger at each other and get ideas every time we wander through. The riding crops are great, and vet wrap makes for excellent single-use bondage tape, and comes in a variety of fun colors!
