Suspension!

Ok, I am something of a minor to moderate masochist, but hook suspension just plain gives me the willies!

Has anyone ever tried it? Would you like it?
Is it worth the risk of injury? Have you ever witnessed one?

Never actually done it as of yet since we don't have anchor points, but I do know all of the ties that go with it. My subbie has tried it and is in love. He says it's much more relaxing than sexual though. It's more like meditation.

I've never seen anyone getting any injury as long as the two involved are knowledgeable. The one going up needs to explain any health problems, and the one tying needs to know what they're doing.

I've witnessed quite a few.

Hook suspension is actually hooks thru the flesh.

I've never experienced it, don't know that I would, even turned down the opportunity the one time I had it but watching it? Man, the folks who do it look like it's a spiritual experience.

Very intriguing but, for me, probably something that will forever remain something neat to look at, not so much to do.

I've never tried it, no, but I have watched and it looks like it's fun for them, but I personally am not interested in having it done to me or watching a partner do it. Hook suspension, I'm not interested in.

Maybe I should actually read the article instead of skimming next time. It said "Suspension Bondage", so I went from there.

I don't know about hook suspension. Never watched one of those, and I think they'd probably scare me more than anything. I know a lot of people enjoy needles - I'd assume the sensation is something around the same?

It is supposed to be a spiritual experience as in the "sun ritual" performed by certain American Indian Tribes. It causes the brain to release intense combinations of endorphins that lead to an altered consciousness. It is so intense that early white Americans watching the ritual actually decided they had to ban it's practice. They were mainly appalled that the ritual involves actually piercing behind the pectoral muscle and then tearing the hook out of the flesh to end the ritual...the participant literally hangs until they fall or in other rituals balances on his (this is usually a male ritual though in the BDSM scene women also participate in the practice) tip toes until the hooks give way. The participant allows their consciousness to shift and then experiences vivid spiritual vision journeys. This is in most tribes a sacrifice along with a vision quest.
Similar ritual are enacted in other parts of the world, most involving piercing the skin with metal, bone or wooden objects often leaving no scarring or actual evidence of the ritual.

I've witnessed the ritual aspect of hook suspension and the piercing/tatooing rituals and they do seem to induce almost a state of euphoria in the participants. Most people these days do not actually tear the hooks from their flesh but it is a rather intense sight even still.

Hook suspension is a bit more pressure, of course, than needle play as the person's body is suspended on the hooks. From what I've gathered from people who have done it, they've said that they cannot feel it all that much one it's through and once they are swinging or doing whatever they're doing on the hooks. Needles are more pinch-y of course whereas the hooks are more pressure. They are different mental sensations, however. But once it's done, no pain, no hurt really. Dangerous, yes, but that's why it's always best to know a lot about such things ahead of time. Needles are more like piercings but hook suspension, from what I've seen, has been more of a fetishist-type thing, not really specific to Dom/me or sub. It's also very spiritual, sort of like flying.

I've looked into suspension. I am not mentally prepared enough for it at this point in my life but I hope one day I will be. I would love the spiritual experience.

On a side note you all should check out this article. I really like the concept. It's different and I feel is more symbolic. Hope you enjoy.
