Depends on what you want to focus on. For practical knot tying, Two Knotty Boys have a great book (on the site) and set of instructional videos here about different techniques.

I really like the New Topping Book and the New Bottoming Book that are both available on EF. They aren't how-tos but I think they'd be helpful for beginners.
