Serious question: Dealing with haters

Contributor: emilymileena emilymileena
While perusing the different forums on Eden (the ones outside the BDSM ones), and have seen a handful of people getting really angry/disgusted by different things that people do in real life. It's something that's just been on my brain lately.

It's easy to ignore those types of posts, but sometimes they make you sit down and have to rejustify why it is that YOU find kink attractive.

Ultimately, how do YOU deal with haters? Do you try to convince them, ignore them? Do you judge them for judging you? What have you done? Or what might you do?

If someone objects to whatever I'm doing (I'll label it as X in this case) I simply ask myself:

1.Do I enjoy doing X?
2.Am I ruining someone's life doing X?
3.Am I hurting someone physically/mentally/em otionally X? (On the Physical matter: BDSM Doesn't count unless if its nonconsensual of course)
4.Is X illegal?

If the answer to everything except #1 is No then it's fine. If you aren't actually harming someone or breaking the law, then I believe it's perfectly fine to do whatever you enjoy. Other people are allowed to think its wrong, or ask that you not do X around them; but if it doesn't truly involve them or you're intentionally hurting someone else then they don't have much reason to tell you to stop doing it entirely.

So! Long story short: I'll say my opinion on the matter and try to talk to them about it, but if they refuse to talk or listen I ignore them.

really, how strong is the "hate" and what is it aimed at? this really is an individualistic question. and as far as the person who is "hating" something, the issue is about them, not you.
