The more blogs I read, the more different experiences I see with the world of kink, and this includes the way that people realize that they're kinky in the first place. What first made you realize that you were kinky? This question can apply to your first feelings of arousal at seeing something kinky, your first realization that you were into kink, or both.
How did you realize that you were kinky?

I had a partner who we both decided to try bondage together for the first time (neither of us have tried it before hand) so we both found out together that we enjoyed kink in our sex. It's was lovely that we got to find that out together like that, and really explore it at a slow and comfortable speed. Now with my current boyfriend, we do it frequently and I get to bring old tricks and ideas that I learned, and it expands and gets better every time. :]

That's a lovely story. It's always nice to know there's no pressure because you're learning with the other person instead of necessarily learning from them.

For a while, I had my sexuality turned "off" or as off as you can put it. I was too nerdy to deal with men and relationships. Then I met my boyfriend and he's so easygoing and open that he's willing to let me explore just about anything. It's great, there's no pressure, and we're happy.

Spanking made me laugh as a child, and then as I got older, i found I liked wearing collars and leashes... Discovered the world of kink and never looked back.
I'm in a 24/7 D/s relationship and love every minute of it.

I had a wonderful partner who showed me the wonderful world of bdsm

I was part of a sex forum on cafemom and some of the things mentioned struck my interest. Also, I came across some erotica that really got me into it, and it's been a snow ball effect since then. ^_^

When I had my first real boyfriend in high school, he liked it rough and it made me like it rough. and then everything else came all at once. it was crazy. i've never been happier.

That's fantastic. The more open-minded your partner is, the easier these types of explorations with them are.

I bet your parents weren't too happy about that! But that's an impressively early indicator.

It's often easier to get into something with someone you love right there to show you how.

Ah, discovery thanks to the internet. I can definitely attribute most of my education to that too!

High school is an age that makes a lot of sense, as it seems to be a typical age for people to begin exploring those sorts of things with others. Glad to hear it has gone well for you ever since!

It started out that I liked being spanked, and grew to wanting my hair pulled, then wanting to be lightly choked, etc.. I say "wanting" because my husband is not into rough sex-he feels like he's hurting me, I guess, even though I've asked him to do it. He sometimes indulges me but I can tell he's uncomfortable with it.

I've always had an imaginative side that I can express sexually. When I started seeing kinkier products online other than the standard lubes you see in the store, then I realized it allowed me to better express what I like.

Yeah, that's an unfortunate thing that happens a lot with people who don't really identify as kinky. It's hard to explain to someone that you want something when they can't get over thinking that it has to be an unpleasant experience.

As long as I could remember, I've been turned on by kinky things. I really wish I had a maledom right now...

From an early age I think. If I got pleasure from it I tended to do it, and that included exploring all aspects of my sexuality when those hormones started flowing. I'm lucky that I don't have an addictive personality

I first learned about kink online, but it was using handcuffs with my high school boyfriend that really sealed the deal for me and made me realize it was a topic I wanted to explore even more.

I saw bondage in movies and became aroused. I thought that was weird until I found out otherwise via the internet.

I was getting older and had been having sex for over a decade and realized I wanted to do something besides the same ole same ole.

Warning for mentions of sexual abuse and rape in this comment
I checked 'other'.
Being/becoming kinky was actually what made sexual activity enjoyable for me for the first time. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years involved in sexual activity that I didn't consent to, including being prostituted against my will. Becoming kinky was sort of a way of finding activities that offered sexual pleasure that I didn't associate with those acts: for example, aspects of BDSM like safe words and contracts became interesting to me for the UNDERLINING of the consent involved.
I was really lucky to run into a young woman who studied both sexuality and psychology, and she helped me to experiment with activities that I wouldn't associate with anything that had happened in my life previously. I honestly think that if it weren't for her or that lifestyle, I wouldn't have learned to enjoy sex at all.
