Those of you who wear a collar in a BDSM relationship, what do you do when people ask about it?
How do you deal with people asking you what your collar means?

If they're close friends I'll tell them but no need to frighten the vanilla people.

It depends on who asks. When clients or coworkers or people like my grandparents ask, it's a necklace from my girlfriend. Kinky folks recognize it immediately and no comment is necessary. i will cheerfully explain the collar and it's significance to friends who are kink friendly. my sister knows, although she doesn't approve. i've never been asked for an explanation by anyone random. Sometimes it receives compliments but i just say "thank you" and move on. my collar features a lock and someone once asked me, winking, "does someone have the key?" to which i simply replied "yes" and smiled.

For me it would depend on who asks. There are people who I will tell the full details and there are others that I would only say that it is just jewlery.
Though for this reason I have 2 collars. My home collar and my out and about collar.

Depends. Nobody has really asked so far. Mine is very slim and blue with a silver buckle in back, it almost looks like a choker more than anything, so I don't think anyone has had any ideas about it.

One collar I wear with my most modest clothes (or sometimes with more goth-y clothes) to confuse the masses. Then I explain them it's for fashion, if they were ever to ask. The worse is, it looks like it could be fashionable.

I used to wear an anklet of slave bells every day. I was surprised I didn't get more questions about "why don't you take those annoying things off?" because I literally wore them everywhere (even running around the track. To me, that was a pretty obvious cue, but when someone did ask I simply told them I liked them and sauntered off.
Kinky people didn't need to ask, and vanilla people were too annoyed by my constant jingling that they didn't ask.

Well, I guess my answer depends on who is doing the asking.
My job involves young people, and I just explain that it was given to me by a friend, and then tell them where it was made/came from. That seems to satisfy them.
I've had very few adults question me about my collar.... but my Master is more than willing to part with that information! LOL... I admit, it has shocked a few when they have gotten the "honest" answer regarding what it is/it's meaning.
But I DO have more than one collar from my Master... and some are more obvious in nature than others.

It depends on who asks. If I trusted them to not be judgmental, I would behonest.
