What would happen if...

What if adult companies like Vivid or Digital Playground went into full budget real movie making and got regular Hollywood stars?
I'm thinking full-blown movies with like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp (etc) doing their acting thing AND just happen to have sex on screen.

Ever think it might happen? Why or why not?

I think they tried this back in the 70's... tried to do larger budget stuff and tried to get it into mainstream theaters. Didn't work.

But yeah, this won't happen. Why? Because the market for movies has to be of a certain size for studios to make enough money to justify producing a movie at all. NC-17 ratings kill that market which is why you don't see many movies rated that way. Studios avoid the designation because it keeps the movie out of many theaters entirely.

Given that they could not expect to make much off such a rated movie, they certainly couldn't afford the budget required to lure a Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp into such a project.

I agree with Laurel.

And personally I hope it never happens.

There are a lot of movie that might as well be porn. That movie 'Before the Devil Knows your Dead'. In the beginning Philip Seymour Hoffman was pounding Marisa Tomei. I am assuming there was probably some invisible barrier the camera could not see, but there is no way that he didn't have an erection. It was sex.

...and Caligula was awesome!

Mainstream actors are totally not going to do porn. It's just not ever going to happen. They already get paid hugely. To get them to actually fuck on screen? They'd have to be paid a gazillion dollars -- and even then, most wouldn't do it. Fucking relative strangers takes a very specific sort of mind set, a mind set you find in the adult world but not "all over". Most film stars don't have that mind set.

Well, yes, they fit (loosely) the definition of Hollywood star . But (and I'm totally not up on my celebrity culture) wasn't it getting filmed that made them stars? Or more in the limelight as it were?

I don't think you could go up to a real star like Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, or Meryl Streep and get them to do a real porno, no matter what you offered to pay them.

In some cases yes, but in other cases... "Hello Phillips Seymour Hoffman? Yeah, we are gonna cut your pay From $2,000,000 to $1,950,00 BUT the sex scene with Marisa Tomei is going to be 100% real. Oh that's great! I had a feeling you would love the idea!"

Those two ladies already have sex tapes out.. so they obviously don't have a problem with sex on camera.

Do you remember that movie about 10 or so years ago with Nicole Kidman her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. It was made just around the time they were splitting up. I can not remember the name, but supposedly in the version that was shown in Europe, the couple actually had sex during the movie. In the version we saw, the sex was implied and at times they were vaguely filmed. It was a peculiar movie---there was a private sex club and the suggestion was that Nicole's character was a member, Tom was suspicious so he followed hr and there was sort of a ritualistic feel to it. I really don't remember much else about it.

Is NC the new R movie rating? I read that many times producers will edit out so they receive a PG-13 for that very reason--it widens the potential audience. Good point Laurel.

Some of the HBO/Showtime series come close, or are at the very least, highly erotic. Have you ever seen "True Blood". It is really hot and has great sex scenes. Of course, you never see a man's penis or penetration, but still very, very hot at times.

I would have to say that with more people being open to the sexual revamp due to girls gone wild, internet, star sex tape leakage, etc. I would definitely think there would be a market! I mean come on, you saw Pamela Anderson and Tommy lee, what I wouldn't give to see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fuck in a movie....and....

Eyes Wide Shut perhaps? I was watching This Film is not Yet Rated and they showed a scene from that film that sounds a lot like what you're describing.

It'll never happen because that's a very big budget for something that wouldn't make a ton of money in the normal Hollywood market. Producers would have nothing to do with it.
