The science world, and particularly the evolution crowd, is forever digging deeper into the link between humans and primates. Our similarities and differences are rather interesting to even the least scientifically-inclined person. Especially when you consider 97 percent of our DNA is the same.
For example, they're all much hairier than humans. Chimpanzees have smaller brains, and smaller angular gyruses, which means they're not as good at problem solving, or arithmetic, and don't get to have out-of-body experiences.
You know what else is smaller on chimps? Their penises. No, really. And they've got nubs! CNN's calling them “spines” but come on, girls. Those of us who've got more than one sex toy in our dresser drawer, or under the bed, know that what they're describing are called “nubs”. Fer sure.
Gill Bejerano, a biologist at Stanford University School of Medicine, got together with some of his science buddies, and decided to try to figure out why human penises don't have nubs. Turns out we've got the receptor that would give our men nubby penises, but we're lacking the switch. Bummer.
Thanks Gill and crew. We're not sure what we'd have done had we not learned about chimp penises.
